Nevadans?

Missy, from what I'm reading on the web says coryza isn't passed through the egg and the incubation period is up to 3 weeks. There are some diseases that can pass to the egg though in the Mycroplasma diseases but coryza isn't one of them.

Got a hold of Tyler and he can make it to the potluck but he won't be able to bring anything. I think I should have him covered with the lasagne though? I will be making a lot of it. He's going to be in Reno this weekend so I'm going to pick him up and take him with us.

Candy, I tried to go to the link but it says it isn't a good link, I keep getting an error. Have you ever had to deal with something like this? I just don't know what I would do.

Missy, I am so sorry!

I read that for upper respiratory disease, Denagard is the best treatment and preventative. It has no withdrawal period, so you can eat the eggs when treating your layers. You can buy it at QC supply. It is pricey but dilutes (one capfull per gallon of water) but goes a long way. My brother raises meat birds and they are notorious for having CRD (chronic respiratory disease) so I did some research for him on the subject. It does work :)

Denagard has a website. www.tiamutin.com/vet-poultry/diseaseproblems/en/index.shtml

Missy if you need to talk just give me pm. I'm pretty free tomorrow and I'd be happy to come see you.

OK, by no means am I trying to downplay the seriousness of all of this but I'm already having a stressed out week. So I'm going to change the subject for a bit.

Today I got my orchard planted, the trees are only a couple years old so it will be a few more years before they fruit, but I'm still excited. I planted 3 peach (Elberta, Hale-Haven), 3 apple (Lodi, Red Johnathan, and Early Harvest), 2 pear (Bartlett, Orient). I also have everbearing raspberries, and Arapaho blackberries to plant. I still need to make my new chicken nipple waterer, and I have to design some different nest boxes for my girls. Some days all I cann think about is how much I still need to do, but days like today I think "wow this place is finally starting to shape up". Of course maybe thats because I wound up with conjunctivitis in my left eye and I can hardly see LOL.

Oh man! That stinks!!! You poor thing!

Nope incubation for Coryza is 1-3 days not months. But you are correct it does not pass through the egg. If we keep getting sick chickens around here I am gonna be an expert on infectious diseases! I know way too much about Cocci and Coryza now!

Ok, ok, I know that is far from being an expert on chicken diseases.

Heh heh... chicken nipple. Sorry, I really needed that kind of giggle, even if it's super dumb.

We just culled those 8. Joe got to disinfect the brooder this time, since Sahara worked so hard yesterday. The last time the little kids were in that brooder was the day before I noticed the symptoms, and that's Tuesday or Wednesday. I disinfected the little kids' dog kennel, then moved them back in one by one so I can listen to them. 11 chicks passed the test. 2 were wheezing.

Can I cry yet?

I'm super excited about a potluck. I'll bring something gluten-free... depending on what everyone else is bringing, I'll do a main dish, side dish, or dessert. More chance that my kids can get a variety of permitted foods. Would everyone else mind posting a general idea of what they want to bring, so I can coordinate what I need to make GF? If it's not too much trouble.

That is strange that it won't come up with the web address I have. If you type in Denagard many different sites will come up for you to research this product and the diseases it helps with.

LOL I seriously think it's the only thing you can look up on the web with the word nipple and not get any disturbing results. I have to admit I was worried when I typed it into the search.

You are more than welcome to laugh or cry as you need. I think we've all been there, and most if not all of us will be there for you.

Yes you have to be careful on-line! Once I was having a serious craving for Thin Mint and Caramel Delight cookies (Samoans in some areas I think) and it was about that time of year anyway, so I go to look up Girl Scout cookies to find a local chapter. Oh dear did I have some scary results! Who new that Girl Scouts show you their cookies could be interpreted in such a screwed up way?
