Nevadans?

Thanks, everyone, for considering my kids while making your food. I appreciate it. When reading labels, a hidden term is modified food starch. If it says "modified corn starch" or "modified tapioca starch," it's ok. Or if it outright says "gluten free" on the label. But just plain food starch is often wheat.

Sunny, I can bring some corn tortillas for the kids. Fajitas sound great!

TheNewMrsEvans, your rooster is beautiful. I can't have them, either.

So sorry about the pink eye! I had that a few years ago and it was no fun. I hope it clears up quickly! Good luck with your orchard. that's so exciting. Wish I had more land.... sigh

Thanks but it isn't pink eye. I'm not contagious. I had some kind of allergic reaction to something, and now the sclera (white part) is producing this awful mucus that is gluing my eye together. Of course its also irritated the lids so they're all puffy. I'm sending my honey to town soon to pick up some antihistamine drops which should help a lot.

Oh, I forgot to mention that my son is allergic to peanuts and almonds. It can be a life threatening reaction so we have to be careful. If anyone brings something with nuts, please let me know so we can be sure to avoid it. We avoid all nuts because of cross contamination. I will ask again at the potluck if there is anything that looks like it might contain nuts.
thanks!

It's a lot easier if we just don't bring anything with nuts.

Problem solved.

Thanks for doing the research for me. As heartbreaking as it is, the cost of these chicks is lower than the cost of vaccinations and miracle measures. I think we're just going to cull all 8 tonight, since trash day is tomorrow, and we can send away all bedding with them.

I wonder if I need to start giving all the others Sulmet now, or wait to see symptoms.

I know I'm a few pages behind But I wanted to say I'm so sorry about your chickens.

Thanks for the heads up! That's one term I wasn't familiar with. I will be picking up fresh corn tortillas as well as flour tortillas so bringing them is no problem. I just wasn't sure if they were completely gluten free. They seem to sneak wheat into so many things that are labled as a "corn" product. Like many corn cereals.

I sure hope your eye feels better soon! My whole family has allergies and once my son's eyes swelled so badly that the white part of the eyeball had almost covered the colored iris on one eye! We rushed him to the hospital for that one! Terrible cat allergies.

Oh thank you for mentioning this! Sometimes I add crushed nuts to my meringues. I'll be sure to leave them out!

I agree!

It is certainly not worth risking that kind of a reaction!
