Nevadans?

Sunny, you are the expert around here with any chicken diseases or even when we need help but don't even know it ourselves type of person. I totally respect your knowledge and the way you always seem to handle things no matter what the case.

This will be a great weekend. We will be having fun.

Candy, I tried to go to the link but it says it isn't a good link, I keep getting an error. Have you ever had to deal with something like this? I just don't know what I would do.
Sheryl - I just tried that link and it looks like it is putting an extra character at the end. After you get the 404 error, mouse into your address bar, go to the end, and backspace over everything until you get to the "l" (that's small L

Heh heh... chicken nipple. Sorry, I really needed that kind of giggle, even if it's super dumb.

We just culled those 8. Joe got to disinfect the brooder this time, since Sahara worked so hard yesterday. The last time the little kids were in that brooder was the day before I noticed the symptoms, and that's Tuesday or Wednesday. I disinfected the little kids' dog kennel, then moved them back in one by one so I can listen to them. 11 chicks passed the test. 2 were wheezing.

I have to tell you the backstory on that one. 20+ years ago in one of my early computer jobs, I was the support/repair tech at a small PC manufacturer in the Bay Area. The owner of the company was a cheap so-and-so, and none of us were paid very much. Anyway, the production foreman was this old hippie named Marty and whenever I would solve a problem for him I would tell him "That's why I get the Big Bicks!" $10/hr - he thought that was so funny that's what he called me from then on - Big Bucks!

Ok So here is the list of people comming and what they're binging. I'll update as soon as I know more. (if I forget anyone just let me know)

I was thinking I would bring Chicken Fajitas since 2 main dishes should do it and Sheryl and I both always make too much anyway. The Fajitas I make are slow cooked so are much more tender than what you get in a restaurant so I hope you all don't mind a different method. Missy I use corn starch to thicken the sauce a little so there is no gluten in the chicken filling. The kids will just have to skip the tortillas since they do have gluten.

I may also bring some meringue cookies since I have been craving them (I have a terrible sweet tooth) and the recipe makes so many I can't possibly eat them all (well I could but it wouldn't be good for me). They are also gluten free. They are just egg whites, sugar and flavorings. I use sprinkles on top but I will check the label to be sure there is no gluten in them first. If there is any wheat or flour or gluten listed then I will just use colored sugar for the sprinkles instead. So the fajitas for sure and the meringues if my back cooperates. That's it for me. Sorry I can never make up my mind when these events come along! So many fun possibilities and I love to cook and bake!

Sunny, would you like to see if Genny can make it? Aubrey will let me know, she has family visiting her right now so she might not make it.

I'll ask her tomorrow but you know how she is about these kinds of things.

Noooooo!!! No expert here! I'm just great at research. That's why I say I will be an expert if this keeps up but I am seriously hoping we have no more outbreaks of anything here!

So sorry to hear you are dealing with sick birdies. I will send healthy vibes to your coop!
On a different note...a lady is bringing me a cute little rooster to rehome. To me he looks like a red Pyle old eng. Sweet with her kids and everybody. One yr old now...
Anybody need a new roo?

He looks very nice! However, I can't keep a roo and I have several 8 week old cockerels to rehome myself.

Missy if you need to talk just give me pm. I'm pretty free tomorrow and I'd be happy to come see you.

OK, by no means am I trying to downplay the seriousness of all of this but I'm already having a stressed out week. So I'm going to change the subject for a bit.

Today I got my orchard planted, the trees are only a couple years old so it will be a few more years before they fruit, but I'm still excited. I planted 3 peach (Elberta, Hale-Haven), 3 apple (Lodi, Red Johnathan, and Early Harvest), 2 pear (Bartlett, Orient). I also have everbearing raspberries, and Arapaho blackberries to plant. I still need to make my new chicken nipple waterer, and I have to design some different nest boxes for my girls. Some days all I cann think about is how much I still need to do, but days like today I think "wow this place is finally starting to shape up". Of course maybe thats because I wound up with conjunctivitis in my left eye and I can hardly see LOL.

So sorry about the pink eye! I had that a few years ago and it was no fun. I hope it clears up quickly! Good luck with your orchard. that's so exciting. Wish I had more land.... sigh

I'm super excited about a potluck. I'll bring something gluten-free... depending on what everyone else is bringing, I'll do a main dish, side dish, or dessert. More chance that my kids can get a variety of permitted foods. Would everyone else mind posting a general idea of what they want to bring, so I can coordinate what I need to make GF? If it's not too much trouble.

it just plain sucks

I will bring marinated vegetable salad. It is gluten free.
