Nevadans?

How rare is the coloring? I wouldn't mind eating them, if they bred true and it wasn't rare to get champagne.
Champagnes breed true. They are born all black and lighten with age. Are you an American Rabbit Breeders Associaton member yet? If you aren't please join you may just be breeding for meat but you get the guide book and the ARBA magazine 6 times a year. Plus if you mention my name I'm entered in the membership contest. I am working on getting the numbers of members up in the state at last count we had 114 members in the whole state.

Nope, not yet. We're just barely getting started, but both my husband and I did it as kids. Well, our parents did it, and we had chores taking care of them. Can you PM me with info on how to join?

Lol I just told my husband about the champagne coloring, and he rolled his eyes. I'm sure he's thinking, "Here we go again!"

americanvalkyrie: I started using garlic after I found this website last year, now I just use it kinda as a general preventative. http://voices.yahoo.com/worming-chickens-naturally-3436430.html I only make an infusion when they seem stressed or sick or if I see any worms in their poo. Generally, I just break the clove in half and toss the pieces in the water, then after a couple weeks I toss the pieces to the girls and they eat them up. I've never tasted a garlic-y egg.

I haven't noticed a decline in egg production mostly because my grownups don't generally get it, it's usually the juveniles that haven't started laying yet. What I have noticed is that those that have shown symptoms in the past sometimes produce a misshapen (bumpy or wrinkly) egg.

re: shopping bag planters. Have you tried the ollas for the shopping bag planters? I have a ton of clay pots and really want to try this. I might make a jean bag to plant in, or maybe even a bag made of recycled feed bags.

Everyone: THANKS for all the lovely comments on my garden!

Sunny: I bought a couple of asparagus plants but don't know where I'm gonna put them. Good luck keeping the rabbits out. I have no advice for you, there.

tyler i dont mean to be antagonistic but missy dont do it. You don,t show yet and dont have pure bred rabbits it isn't worth it. Champians are frequently common and i could find you some with a few challanges but a breeder in reno will have the at some time.
They even make champange netherlands

Your kids should do 4-h rabbits before they get and arba membership(not needed for 4-h) also in 4-h you can show crosses

but if you kids like rabbit showing then by all means a arba membership is worth it but only if yous do show quality

Everyone! I came home tonight to a little baby boy with Wynnie and her little baby girl. One egg was crushed though and it did die in the egg. I have a single pip in the incubator so 1 of them is staying on schedule so far. I'm getting really excited each day. Missy, I want to wait until her last egg can hatch and another 1 hatches from the incubator before you get the little ducklings so Wynnie doesn't get totally upset with me once I take 2 of them away from her.

Vegaschick, I always have garlic onhand, and I'm going to be growing some rare varieties this fall. That sounds so easy! And as far as ollas, I haven't done them because of cost. They don't cost much, unless you don't have money to spend. And I don't have a lot of clay planters just lying around here. But I am using recycled feed bags. And Sahara is learning to sew, so I told her she can use my old jeans to make grow bags. Surely, I can fit a whole potato plant or two within this getup!

My next project for my husband is using Rubbermaid containers and 5-gallon buckets to make a drip watering system with my graywater. I even have a client who would like some made for her. She's gardening in an area that's far from her house and could really use a way to keep it moist.

Seth, do you need a champagne male and female to get champagne babies? The ones we have now produce the spots or solids, in black or brown. My doe is white with black spots, the buck is a solid fawn. The two bucks who are in the running for stud are a solid black and a white with fawn spots. Also, do you know where I could find some breeders with champagnes? I don't care about SQ, just no big birth defects.

After I have a few hides saved up, I'm going to learn how to tan them. And first I'm going to make a bedspread for me, then I can work on making things for other people. As long as we're breeding to eat anyway, the champagne hides will probably be in higher demand.

That's a good idea. If possible, I would like 2 girls, and if that means waiting until they all hatch, I'm fine with that. I'm excited about imprint, but I'd rather everyone was healthy and happy.

Congrats again! How many eggs does Winnie have left? And how many do you expect in the incubator?

peep_show: I took new photos just the other day. They have changed a lot in just a couple of months! We gave Token to my other fertile egg resource (not ke_ben) along with a boy of each breed and 2 Salmon Faverolle pullets. He had some losses from warmth issues, but I'm happy to say that Token the white TJ's chick (definitely a girlchick) is doing great. I saw her just today as I picked up eggs for ANOTHER broody. I have 2 sitting right now. I should have chicks in about 21 days...all Marans and Marans mixes. ARE YOU SERIOUS about the GC Marans? I would definitely love to have a couple of those...are you hatching now? Did I mention I have 2 broodies?!?

ETA: NYD chicks 3 month photos! I got so excited I forgot what I was doing!

This is Winner the Wheaten Marans roo (you know,,,winner, winner...) He's been trying to crow for more than 2 months. My handicapped sister has been crowing at him, trying to help him improve. Now when he hears her voice he crows, like Pavlov's dogs.

The only two Wheaten Marans pullets out of the batch. Please forgive the panting...they're HOT CHICKS!!!

This is Mimi. Wheaten Marans pullet with a weird comb and less leg feathering.

I haven't yet named this pullet. Waiting for another of the old girls to volunteer for freezer camp. I have an egg eater and when I figure out which one...I'll know what this pullets name will start with! I had to clip the webbing between her toes as a chick...they were almost fused together. Looking great now!

Frenchie the Salmon Faverolle. Grease reference here.

My Three French Hens...(thanks peep)

The foursome looking fab! They were kicked out of the Growout Coop and are happily residing in The Coopa where Winner fights with Inkheart through the chicken wire door.

Sounds awesome. I really wanna try the whole siphon waterer thing but we haven't figured out how to set it up yet.

If you wanna try the ollas...my friend got a ton of clay pots free from a florist that does orchid floral arrangements for the casinos...the orchid come in the clay pots and she just throws them away. Yet another way to recycle! Regardless, I'm gonna try it and I'll let you know how it works out.
