Funny thing happened to me today...
friend of mine came into the shop with a bunch of real professional-types in tow. They have just gotten some land in the north virginia area and are meeting with lawers, land owners, and city councelmen and women to work to get the laws changed regarding growing and selling produce locally! If they are successful, they plan on making it legal to begin urban farming for the intention of selling ON SITE and even at PRODUCE STANDS in town! They are planning on putting STRICT rules in place so that they will be taken seriously and so that if the operation does come to fruition people will be forced to farm and sell safely and responsibly. pretty cool eh?

Hi All~ Welcome to those new to the thread!
Just wanted to let you know the next NNPFA Poultry Swap will be May 20th 9am - 2pm @ 1-Stop Ranch and Feed on Glendale Ave in Sparks. We will have a Poultry Showmanship demonstration at 11 am. This is a continuation of our club fundraiser effort to raise money to pay for the rental of the bldg for our 11/17 poultry show. We will be selling $5 raffle tickets for a custom vinyl coop the club has constructed.
anyone can sell poultry and poultry related items at our Swap but we do ask for a donation to the club.
I still have the following chicks available or hatching: Standard Cochin, Show girls, Silkies, Seramas, Bantam cochins I will have a couple of non-show quality Call ducks available at the swap....also 3 month old hatchery pullets as well.
Thanks for posting pics everyone I love seeing them! I hope the chicks are getting healthy and eeryone else is feeling better too!!!

And some day when you are old and gray you will fondly reminisce about the good old days in Fernley, NV. hahaha
I know you will Sheryl! And here's some advice: Sign up to be notified when new listings come on the market right now! Even if you don't think you are ready to do it just yet. Most realtors have this service available for free with no obligation - you just enter the search criteria like acreage, location, etc. First, you'll have a better handle on the market - what types of places are available and what they are going for; Second, you never know when the perfect deal might come along and it all clicks. I was having listings emailed to me for years. I use the service of a broker I know in Lake Tahoe (we went to the same high school down in L.A.). You can sign up here - choose Nevada Area and it will present you a page where you enter your criteria including specific areas, acreage, etc.Oh Ron, I envy you so much having your land like you do and having less laws as well there. Someday we shall have the same.
YAY! what a good listener Sahara is!! Actually I just learned it last year from a waterfowl breeder, the boys peep forever, the girls tend to do that LOUD QUACK soon and especially when being handled. I am so happy she got those ducks! After 7 years with only chickens my daughter begged for a pair of Call Ducks and now we have have 5 different breeds and ducks are even cooler than our chickens~Julie, when one of Sahara's cayugas died in the mail, we thought it was the male but wasn't sure. Today, her surviving cayuga quacked (at 3 weeks old) and Sahara said, "Now I know this one is the girl. Because the lady at the poultry show said the girls quack earlier than the boys do."
