But I have the black girls for Flrpl - so will hatch split black/lav chicks, those pullets I can cross back to him for lav chicks. I also have my Bama Orps (black) that I am thinking about crossing with him, then those chicks back to him again for lav EEs with the bigger Orp body. Bamas birds are so incredibly heavy compared to all my others - stunning. So I am hoping they will put nice size on the EEs. But we will see, those projects are far into next year if not farther out.

Even my two Del girls (who I also got from Greens last year) are friendly. Stacy is my best layer, she has not taken a break yet and I worry about her, she has not molted either - just gets new feathers in here/there.

Bloomie how exciting. It is magic to watch a chick hatch.

Bloomie, congrats!!! Sounds like you are doing everything right! From what I've read, too much humidity is a problem more often than not enough humidity. Also that lockdown thing is overrated. I've had great hatches with no lockdown, since I hatched them in the classroom (you try keeping 250 kids from touching the eggs much less from lifting the lid of an incubator).

Thats good to learn, SunnyDawn, becuz Egg #3 has hatched and I was wonderin' how the heck I was gunna get it out and clean up the shell without throwin' the other egg in the incubator into a hatchin' fit. If I understand what ya wrote, I should be able to open the lid and remove the chick and shell....right?

It was 6:47 when it broke free of the entire shell.
Its drying in the incubator as I type.

Congrats on the chicks Bloomie. Almost as much fun keeping up with your progress as it is watching our own. Your chicks seem to be really nice and strong. That is really good for not being able to mess them up, lol. Just keep doing what has been working. that is the very best you can do. I don't take lock down all that seriously. Heck if the hen can get up and go have dinner for 20 minutes I don't think it does tremendous harm to open the incubator for a few seconds. It never has for me anyway.
Sounds like you have a good system in the works. But be careful that you get rest. This could be a long hatch that goes for days.

yay! tomorrows the big day! if y'all couldnt tell, im soooo excited to meet other chicken-eers in town! yay! i really hope one of you ends up with my e.e., elenore, i think she will be pretty when she grows up, but i only need one e.e.

Bloomie: hope youre hatching is still successfull!

SunnyDawn: HAPPY LATE B-DAY AND GREAT PICS!

Eventhough I don't have chickens yet - my neighbor (who also is getting chickens) and I will also be there this morning. Very excited.

It has been thrilling to read about the little chicks hatching = I can't wait to see photos!

okay guys, so i donated my six week old e.e, elenore to the 4-h club. i hope one of you ended up with her

they labeled her as an ameraucana and put her with a welsummer pair.

i didnt find a barred rock to add to my mini flock, they had four, but they were too big to go with my girls, so i had to come home empty handed. although my boyfriend (who didnt want to go in the first place) really wanted me to buy one of the silkies, but they were too feisty and didnt like being picked up.

anywhoo, if any of you ladies have any yound barred rocks for sale, im still interested! (maybe even a young silkie for the boy??)

hope those who went had fun, it was a lot smaller than i thought it would be, but still really neat.
