Nevadans?

Thanks, Missy! It was great meeting you and Russ, too. And checking out your flock and your awesome gardens! I'm really glad you guys took the freezer and will put it to good use. I was dreading putting it on Craigslist and dealing with that hassle!

It's plugged in and frosty inside. I haven't moved my food over though. I've been going out, opening the door, nearly crawling inside, and saying, "Aaaaahhhh!"

I got our swamp cooler running again. I think I have really fixed it this time. the belt was too tight so the motor would overheat and shut off. It's cooling off in here now. I got the second coat of paint on the outside of the playhouse and primed the inside. still no roof but it's a little easier for me to paint inside before the roof is on since I'm taller than 4'.

stay cool everyone.
Hmmm too bad we can't take those two ameraucana roosters that Daniel has to get rid of, and find a way to make a sound-proof yard, and cook us up some olive egger babies.
you'll have to share your plans for the sound-proof yard

I'm sure it would be quite popular. Once you've been bitten by the chicken bug, it's hard to resist roosters. Maybe some sort of force field would work. Hmmm... if only star trek were real.
Ive been looking into it a lot because I plan on breeding Gregory Peck once he matures.
we could use an updated photo of him, pretty please!

It was so nice to meet you, too! I think we have a lot in common, which never comes up on anonymous internet threads.
We made a few bucks, which will probably be turned around to buy more food to put in my new freezer!!!

I got to meet Ron as well. It was so nice meeting you, Ron.

We'll have to try for another get-together before the summer is over. Maybe a harvest party, with food from the gardens.
we should definitely have another get together!

Yeah it seems counterintuitive but the swamp cooler belts need to be a little loose. I bet you (and your family!) are psyched you finally got it fixed though! Just in time, too - I heard it is supposed to be 100 tomorrow and every day for at least the early part of next week.

We absolutely need another get together!

Missy,
That is a great idea! Once our gardens are in full swing we might have items to swap! I will have ALOT of pumpkins, hopefully fairytales. Possibly ALOT of tomatoes too, my plants are about 3ft tall already.

Glad the sale went well, and congrats on the new freezer!

sweet!!! My dad and brother came over yesterday to hook up the one that was in our backyard when we first moved in. I was skeptical since that thing had been back there for centuries and was covered in muck and dirt, but once hosed off my dad said it looked brand new and ran PERFECTLY! (my dad is a sheet metal/duct worker and my brother is a pipefitter,

lucky meee!!!) Got her hooked up and had it running at full speed. My bedroom which has been exceeding 100* during the day stayed at 70 and our living room didnt go above 80*. Its was a gosh darn miracle! Im so happy!!! Sometimes little things like this just fall into your lap and I am so grateful it did because there is no way i could have afforded a $400 swamp cooler this year.

missy I need to take a minute to TOTALLY THANK YOU for those veggie plants! the peppers are giving us crazy amounts and weve got tons of tomatoes growing. im really really excited for markie, he got his garden afterall!

I wanna try fairytale pumpkins! I was looking at them just yesterday, on the Territorial site.

What I hope to have tons of: potatoes (as previously mentioned,) sugar pumpkins, small wonder squash (personal-sized spaghetti). Maybe a lot of tomatoes, if all these insane blossoms survive the heat. Hopefully a lot of acorn and delicata squash, but they're just beginning to blossom now. Planning for tons of snap beans, maybe a little bit of painted mountain corn. I have 13 eggplants, but this is my first time growing them, so I don't know what to expect. I have 3 fairytale eggplant growing so far, and about 5 swallow eggplant. The blossoms on my gretel aren't setting yet, probably because of the heat. I went out and tented a lot of stuff with shade cloth today, in preparation for at least a week of 100+ weather!

WOOHOOO!!! I'm so glad! My peppers aren't giving me tons of amounts, but I think they'd be doing better if they were in actual ground. I have lots of blossoms, though, and a few fruits started.

It's a race to see who gets the first indigo rose tomato. Nobody that got IR plants from me has a ripe one yet, but everyone is commenting on how purple they are.

P.S... I'd like to take a moment to thank the fine folks at Bibo Coffee Co. for the insanely monstrous amount of greenery in Garden #2. It's fertilized primarily with used coffee grounds, and just a bit of whey. My friend who's lending me the piece of land is instructed NOT to go in the garden, because he knows NOTHING about plants, and one wrong step could mean 5 fewer pumpkins for a hungry family. Seriously, I didn't think this chunk of horrible soil would produce so well, and I know a lot of it has to do with the coffee grounds.

oh yeah elizabeth, heres a picture of Gregory Peck from today :) Hes so gangly. Some marans people have told me that it looks like he has some game bird mixed in him somewhere down the line. They think he should be chunkier and have some curved tail feathers by now. Im just glad hes starting to really get some gold in!

SWEET! well if you need more I figured out that Bibo3 on record street has a much better system of saving grounds than the mt rose location. Since the espresso grounds dont get dumped into the garbage immediately, they get bumped into a container and that container can be emptied into something else. Some customers bring in buckets and give us a couple of days to fill them. It works a lot better if youd like to do that.

I knw what you mean about those lil purple guys! I have about 3 on each plant so far. I keep thinking about PURPLE pico de gallo, omg.

Yeah I immediately noticed the purple tomatoes at Missy's place. My next project is definitely going to be the hoop house. I need to get my plants started much earlier (amd keep them going much later). I have some Cherokee Black seeds that I would love to try out.

What is the "Territorial" site Missy? (Just what I need - another gardening website to buy stuff from
