Nevadans?

well, I now have another broody! One of the black australorps has decided it's her turn. the buff orp was out of the nesting box this a.m. so maybe she's done. I feel so bad for them when it's this hot, though. I would not want to be camping out in a nest box in this heat.

It's our 16th anniversary today so I took the day off and we're going to go out to lunch while the kids are in school. A nice benefit of Jose's work schedule... we have so rarely gotten out together over the years, it's a real treat.

anyone know when nnfpa is having another swap? I haven't seen julie on here in a little while. Still haven't had any inquiries about my rooster.
I don't have any experience hatching but I hope your eggs are okay. It's hot here but not quite that hot. I'm not a fan. Hopefully we'll all get a break from the heat soon.

If you PM her, she'll answer. I asked her a question a few days ago.

That is so funny! I want to get a black and a white silkie chick and name them Yin and Yang!!! They are all so cute.

My friend is interested in starting a flock, but wants pullets. She lives on a farm with many horses, so she has plenty of room. She wants about five or six pullets, but hasn't built a coop yet. She wants the hens only for eggs, and will probably need a rooster. Does anyone have any pullets that are good layers, particularly red stars or barred rocks?

Hi there, I know someone with some red star pullets and possibly barred rocks if she is still looking. PM me.

(I am still trying to catch up on posts!)

And for those wondering NNPFA is planning another swap or 2 but have to pick date and location....probably be Sept.

I have CALL DUCKS and CAYUGAS for sale!:D

My baby didn't make it. And the other two aren't going to hatch. If anyone knows of a brand new baby that my broody can adopt, I will love to have it. She's worked so hard, and deserves a baby.
Awww, bummer!

The latest flyer from C-A-L Ranch says they still have chicks. And they have lowered the price to under $2 (I don't remember exactly how much).

Wow - just got caught up on 10 pages of posts!

I just PMed Nifty to see if he can find out what's up.
My two Black Am hens had been broody for months! I had renamed the one Tude (short for Attitude) 'cause she pecked at me every time I went to see if any eggs were under her.

Hey Sunny, do you want a beautiful, but ornery, Black Am rooster?

Aubrey what ever happened with the bedbugs? Did you get rid of them?

Hmmm, tempting. But with our truck and gas prices, they might be $20 chicks. I'll think about it. Or I can just let her sit and outgrow the broodiness, but would rather just get a baby or two.

The guys come back again next weekend for a second round BUT i have slept the past week in my own bed without mittens and socks and havent been awakened not once! it did take us two days and cost over $100 to do all of our laundry at the laundromat but i have to say it was WELL WORTH IT. I am now sleeping and have peice of mind. Its amazing, thanks so much fr asking

I do wonder if this heat will hurt hatching. The eggs under two of the broodies are due starting this weekend and it's over 100 and supposed to get as high as 107! Anyone have experience or know if there are problems from brooding in such heat?
I haven't personally tried to hatch in that kind of heat but I've heard that, yes, it can be a problem. Can you put a fan with some ice packs behind it in the coop? Even on low speed the fan should bring it down 10 degrees if there are ice packs cooling the breeze. Jeez 107 is brutal!

So sorry you are still not getting notifications! That stinks.

And no, we don't need another roo. Even if he were sweet and beautiful. I take it Poppy is still being a total turd? He is gorgeous but I would turn him into dog food if he were here. In fact we have been whittling down the amount of roos we have here and the ones with attitude are always the first to go. No matter how pretty they are.
