Halloween was confusing. All my life my parents said, "Never take candy from strangers." And then they dressed me up and said, "Go beg for it." I didn't know what to do. I'd knock on people's doors and go, "Trick or treat . . . . . no thank you." ~ Rita Rudner

Wow, I wish I had some sparkly conversation piece to liven up the thread, but nothing really exciting is going on here. We turned Garden #2 yesterday, and all I have left to do there is plant the garlic, turn the chard when it's done, and fertilize through the winter. We picked another 100lbs of apples from a friend's tree today, and they're marvelous! Extremely sweet. I think I ate at least 8 of them today. So I think I'll run these through the dehydrator each night, and use the supplemental heat for the house. Every bit counts, right?

That's about it. I still need to clean out Garden #1 and plant the garlic in it, can a few more items, process all these apples, and make more soap before my cure-time deadline. I really really want to do NaNoWriMo this year but don't know if I'll have the kind of time it takes. The last two years, I gave up 3 days into it when the house fell APART!!! Really, they couldn't manage to get the housework done without me there to nag at them, whether or not I wasn't helping them do it. I'm not discounting it... but realistically, it might just take too much time.

So what's going on with everyone else??? How were your weekends???

Everything is going well here. Steve's Uncle was visiting this weekend. He left this afternoon. Trying to finish up some crochet projects and other stuff so I can send care packages out. I got my grapes that I ordered ages ago (Concord Seedless & Tickled Pink) so now I need to find time to plant them.

We went and looked at the house that couple wants us to take over, when they move, and it doesn't look like it fits our needs well at all so we're probably gonna pass on that (whew! I didn't want to move again anyway).

We got some very good news last week! Steve's contract has been renewed for another 2 years and that is exactly how much more time he needs to put in to qualify for retirement from the Army (as a civilian employee) so that will make retirement a bit easier on us. Maybe we can even find a way to retire here in the states! Before we had no idea how to be able to afford to stay here.

Hope all is well with everyone. I am a bit worried about friends and family on the East Coast though! This storm moving in right now looks like it is going to be a terrifying ordeal!!!

I am trying to keep a positive attitude but this storm is really going to be a dangerous one.

I'm doing very well. I've been very busy with work as usual but I can't complain. It took John until tonight believing we have racoons. I asked him last week what will it take for him to believe the racoons are actually here. He said he won't believe it until he actually sees one. So tonight the ducks were very nervous and hiding under the coop and inside the coop. Boy were they noisy tonight. John and I was outside with the flashlight checking everything out when the racoons started their noises while we were out there. Boy did he get nervous and asked what can we do tonight to get them. Of course, there isn't anything open right now to purchase the traps.

I have a lot of family on the East Coast. My son just moved to VA 2 weeks ago. My niece lives just outside of D.C. Everyone is doing fine. My son said the street is flooding behind his house but they are safe. They live in Norfolk. My son is suppose to check into his ship tomorrow. He heard on the news Friday all the ships pulled out. He called the base and they said no, your ship is right here. This morning he decided to go see for himself before the storm really hits and of course his ship wasn't there. He called the base back and they said oops, yeah, the ship did pull out. Consider yourself checked in, you must call each day and check in until the ship is back in port. Gotta love the way things work. lol

Got a lot of stuff to do tomorrow and that's about it. Gotta get the garlic planted tomorrow as well. Garlic needs to start coming up in the fall so you must water the garlic the first week after you plant it. Then cover it with straw or leaves some other plant matter for the winter. Uncover once frost is out of the forecast in the spring and all you do is water it until the plant dies. Very easy to grow.

Not much here as well.Just picking the last of my apples and finishing up the run for my little bantams. They are enjoying their new area! It`s finally snowing in the Sierras,so Heavenly will actually have some snow up there!

Had a CT scan of my sinuses due to my recent loss of sense of smell and had a reaction to the contrast dye (puffiness and rash). Been laying VERY low due to the Benadryl. zzzzzzzz
