Nevadans?

1st puppy went to it's new home tonight.

I told everyone they couldn't leave till they were 12 weeks old but that is this Friday so I let them pick her up tonight.

She took to the young couple that picked her up immediately. I know she is going to a great home since I asked a thousand questions and they even sent me pics of their property. I'm still sad though. *sigh* At least she could have looked sad to be leaving.

oops! forgot to check eggs today. we went to dinner right from work. guess i'll be out there with a flashlight again.
My cochin layed her egg from the roost

she'll get the hang of it soon. sometimes i think they are surprised at first and don't know what they're doing yet.

I love mute. What did we do before they had mute buttons? I know we got up and changed the channel. Actually, I'm showing my age now, I don't remember commercials being so obnoxious when I was a pup. There were lines that nobody dared to cross back then. Not sure what happened between now and then but there weren't as many commercials and they were pretty benign by comparison. I remember being shocked by the first commercial that dared to accuse people of having bad breath! Then dandruff! It was rude but I guess it didn't bother folks enough to protest and now look what's happened. OK I'll shut up now.

Yes living in the boonies does have it's advantages! Just getting rid of solicitors has been a huge bonus! Although I now know the UPS, the Fedex and my postal carrier. hee hee

Hey! Maybe somebody is interested in what I'm doing at 2 in the morning! Oh never mind. Even I get that nobody's likely to be interested in my cookie baking supplies.

I'll pout it they don't have it! It won't do any good but I'll still pout. lol I had the grilled chicken salad when we went and it was very good.

IDK about your friend. It makes no sense but I know a few like her.

Yes the phone has come in handy for quite a few things. I route all sales calls through that phone too. Well worth the extra $9.99 a month. It also comes in handy when I can't find my phone and no one else is home to call it (no land line here).

Once the contract is up we may cancel it but I'll be sad to see it go if we do.

And I agree, caller ID is a must!
The creepiest video I ever saw was of a "cage free" farm. There were a thousand or so birds running around this large room with no roosts or anything and they were trampling each other! The workers were moving through the building with a large metal hook and fishing the dead chickens out from the bottom of the pile and tossing them in a garbage cart. There were more than a dozen dead chickens in the cart and the workers were only a quarter of the way across the room. The workers all had these heavy duty breathing masks on because the fumes were so toxic. It was horrible!!! Anyone that thinks they are doing the right thing by buying "cage free" eggs is terribly wrong.

Hahaha! That was me this year but it was my fault for waiting too long to move them outside.
Yummy! lol
the empty cartons she gives me are all "cage free" too. what can you do?

she'll be fine but I'm sure it's hard to let those babies go.

That's what always happens to me with my tomatoes - the plants get huge but I never get any fruit, at least not until a few days before the first frost kills them all off!

I have had this problem for the last few years and someone told me to sprinkle some epson salt into the hole before planting the plant and it made so much more of a difference this year. My cherry tomatoes grew larger (the fruit not plant, before the tomatoes were like little pebbles) and they produced so much fruit that I was giving them away to my friends. I haven't been able to grow a chili pepper plant ever and this year I did the same, a small hand full of epson salt during planting and I got about 20+ peppers from one plant and they were good size peppers too. So next year try some epson salt during planting, it has worked with my flowering plants as well and my roses look so much healthier.

I've heard that using epson salts as an exfoliar spray works well too, especially on nightshades. The magnesium makes the fruit sweeter. I intended to try it this year but didn't. Next year I'm planting a lot more peppers and eggplants, so I'll probably do it.

I don't know that magnesium sulfate would be considered "organic", but it's less harmful than some things we could be doing.

The soil here in Fernley is so strange. In an apartment some years ago I had beach like sandy soil, Very loose and my plants grew well. My neighbors drained their pool every few days and flooded my yard so all the blossoms fell off (too much water).
At my mothers house her soil was like clay (too hard) the plants wouldn't grow well as the roots had a hard time spreading and we got almost no produce.
I have since bought a house almost 2 years now in Jan and my soil here is a bit hard so I added some garden soil (2 50Lb bags) and some Epsom salt for each plant. This fall after ripping everything out I plan on turning some rabbit manure along with the hay that was mixed in with the droppings with hopes that it will fertilize the soil and loosen it up. I am hopeful next year to grow some large tomatoes as my family really likes them and maybe try some Zucchini. I did try this once before and the plants grew very large but we didn't even get one zucchini the whole year.
This did depress us as we do like zucchini bread, Maybe next year.
Good luck to you and your garden.

From what I understand Ron, huge plants with low yield means you have too much nitrogen.

Sounds like you need less nitrogen about mid to late June, and more potassium. Fireplace ashes are a good source.

A lot of people think Miracle Gro is the ultimate for gardens. It's Miracle GRO = high in nitrogen. So the plants grow and grow and grow... but it's potassium that stimulates blossom production.

Awesome suggestions everyone! Thanks so much. Now I can't wait for spring.

I can definitely state that adding hay will loosen up hard soil. When I lived in Niles Canyon in the Bay Area, the soil was hard clay. I would buy moldy hay from the horse stables and rototill it into the clay. My friend had told me I would never be able to grow anything in that soil, and she was amazed when a few months later I had a huge garden growing.

I have had great success here growing zucchini. I think it likes sandy soil. So do potatoes and onions apprently.
