Right now I have 2 coops on these 20gal, food grade, barrels that seem to work really well. I have the little poultry drinking cups attached to them (the nipple waterers leaked too much) with the spring trigger inside and all I've had to do is remove a small disc of ice from the cups each morning (about the size of a lima bean). The dark color means they absorb heat during the day so the water has not frozen yet and it got down to 16 degrees the other night. I need to go by Twin Cities and get 3 more barrels since they are working so well.

I would really like to see your set up with those barrels. Sounds really interesting. I'm not worried about freezing here in Vegas but it does happen occasionally. I'd like to see the poultry cup set up with the barrels. Please post some pictures!

Will do. :)

Ok so my SLRW and my sliver spangled hamburg layed there first eggs today Whooo! but for the last few days i have had 1-2 cracked eggs in the nest box is it becuase i have tons of new layers and hwo do i stop this problem most if not all lay in the same nest box what do i do?

I have that problem if I don't have enough bedding and if I don't check for eggs often enough. Since they squat instead of sit when they lay, it can land kind of hard. At least, with mine, they do. The crack is always on the "this end first" side.

That was my first thought too. Do you offer them oyster shell as well as feed? Try both those things (thicker bedding and oyster shell) and it should help.
