Actually that was NOT me! Omg an imposter! LOL, I was wearing jeans today and did not have time to go to a craft store LOL. Good thing you didn't ask hahahahaha

Sheryl a lot of the people who enter birds are really young kids and the birds are their 4-h projects.

2 and a half hours!!! Yikes! I need to go and get a moving permit to have our Mazda smogged but I can't hang there that long! I think I'll avoid the Saturday thing. Hope you got everything you needed done. You wouldn't want to have to do that again anytime soon.

Yeah Saturday at the DMV is lame-sauce. Ive always gone mid-week mid-day. (never as soon as they open in the AM because everyone else has that idea too...always around 10:30 am) Its the best. one time i went and didnt even have to wait in line. the lat time i went the wait was under ten minutes...

There can't be 2 of Aubrey! There just can't!!

Once you meet Aubrey you'll see there is no second!

I heard of the 4H kids as well but I thought they only do the show quality birds and not the hatchery birds?

Missy, if the birds are 1.5 years old and they are coming out of molt then they most likely won't be laying eggs again until February or March. WH's take 8 weeks off before laying an egg a day again. At looking at the picture you posted the first buff WH isn't show quality. She has mallard markings on her face and it's a DQ.

If you do want to hatch your own eggs then I'll be more than happy to give you Misty's eggs to hatch once you have a broody. Ducks will go broody and I'm sure your 2 girls will go broody around May or June. I do believe they'll lay all winter long too since this is their first year of laying but I can be wrong. Sierra stopped laying eggs last December and Misty wasn't laying yet. They both started laying in February and they didn't miss a day until they molted. WH's usually molt in June/July. I'm really surprised his are molting this time of year but then again Missy just did a mini molt. The great things about ducks is they share sitting on the nest so the eggs never gets cold. They enjoy being broody together and they share. The issues with breeding too close is the egg laying will drop and you really must watch for any imbreeding issues. I don't mind letting Justin come over and let him breed with the hens so you won't have any breeding issues.

Noise factor will not change. These birds are very docile and quiet once they get older. Did he say why he's getting rid of them? I see they are both Silvers.

If you want SQ birds then read this. It tells you everything you need to know. Holderreads lives in Corvallis, OR and he's the one who started breeding the birds here in the first place and it's his SQ birds people buy.

We'll see how much Sahara follows up on her desire. We told her that, if she does the work for an SQ breeder duck, we'll buy it. Not on credit... she has to work off the amount first. So because she is just barely showing such a spike in motivation, I'll let her lead it. I feel that, if she wants it badly enough to follow through and care for the animal and show it, she'll do the initial work.

Right now she's doing so well with sewing and cooking, and now a little bit with the clarinet. A year ago, she didn't want to work toward ANYTHING but maybe collect items that her parents paid for.

DMV: we've always had luck going Saturday afternoons, just a couple of hours before they close. It's a gamble, because if they are busy you might not get your stuff done before they close. But we've hardly had a wait then. Monday mornings... NO!!!!!!! Fridays can be pretty bad, too.

aw shucks! hahaha

Well it is a junior poultry show and i do believe they are a lot more lenient in judging. "show quality" is all in how the bird follows the standard, whether it is from a hatchery or not. Some show quality birds throw horrible looking offspring and it is possible to get a show quality bird from a hatchery, albiet not very likely. Anyone can enter any bird they want. Even if it doesnt meet standard. Much like seth entering his showgirls even though they arent a recognized breed, and how some of the silkies are mutted colors and not actually accepted, they will still enter the bird to show them off or just even for the experience. There is no bar on what you enter but something that is too far from standard will be DQed. Even hatchery birds can follow the standard without disqualifications but will most likely not win anything when put up against something thats been bred for many generations to reach perfection

OK so go on Tuesday or Wednesday around 10:30am. I'll be sure and avoid the Monday and Friday thing. I'm goin' with Aubrey on the Saturday thing. My past experience tells me to avoid Saturdays at the DMV like the plague. Could just be my luck, you know like thinking Carrows will have broccoli soup at 11am!
