Awwww Seth they're so cute!!! I'm excited about my babies. And nervous. I hope she's a good mom the first time around.

Aubrey, I got the PM and it's all stuff that's really easy to do. Most are plants that I'll be starting anyway. You're going to have the awesomest garden ever!

As Shad, yes the BCM should lay a "chocolate" egg. So Pico/Hercules might be a girl??? Wow, I was SO sure he/she was a rooster! Awesome.

Eggs! I started getting eggs new years eve and have been getting 1 or 2 a day. I'm trying to figure out who lays what! It is so fun! So is it a black copper Maran that would lay a REALLY dark brown egg? And I've already had a double yolker that I was so excited about, not sur who layed that one! I really was not expecting eggs until spring, I'm not using additional light, all my chickens are about 5 months old now.
I have 2 RIR, 2 buff Orpington, 2 blrw

Yeah we really need to see a picture. Depending on how dark it is it could be the Marans hen or the RIR. Congrats on the eggs!

OK we've lived here in the Reno area since 2005 and every time I've seen the effects of freezing fog I've wanted to take pics but the window of opportunity is so small and it always seemed like I was in a hurry and couldn't wait for the fog to lift or I got back too late when it had already started to melt. This morning when I first went out the fog was so thick I couldn't see the valley. But by the time I was halfway done with my chores the fog had started to lift so I ran in and grabbed my camera.

Sorry I can't share the sale quality photos here but here are a few cool pics of the ice crystals that formed. I wish I could have caught the full effect. The air was full of swirling ice particles that looked like super fine glitter floating through the air. Once the sun came out it was magical!

Ha ha! Sorry I'm so proud of that. Everyone kept saying boy and I stuck to my guns and said girl cause my BCM girls had such big combs when they were young too. Plus the pullets in my marans chicks had tails that stuck straight out when young and the boys tails start out fan-like. Your girl's tail stuck straight out. It sticks out in my mind cause that was when I finally started getting the whole "guess the gender" thing down. Well with marans anyway. It was a great feeling to finally be right. Especially when a couple of folks kept pointing out how silly I was being to think that bird was a girl.

I didn't even say I told you so when she finally laid an egg but I wanted to!
