Nevadans?

oh, Missy, sorry I forgot to pick up my potatoes. I will make a note for myself for tomorrow.

Lol, I didn't even notice. The red cooler drop is so convenient that I'm not sitting around waiting for someone, so I forget. The potatoes will be fine. Those sprouted peanut fingerlings have been in there over a month, and are fine.

Aubrey and Lacy Blues, Kirstie has a couple of goregous "Splash" colored golden cuckoo Marans rooster chicks that are 6 weeks old. They are not an accepted color, but she said she grew one out to a year of age and had a hard time letting him go because he was SO beautiful. She does not have any pullets available at this time. If you would like to contact her about them, her BYC name is Harris5.

Hello all! I'm Kirstie...I had a few minutes this morning so thought I would pop in with a couple of pictures so you all can see what Candy is talking about with the GCM splash cockerels she mentioned. This is a splash GCM rooster I grew out last year (the white one). I didn't have the extra breeding pen to do test hatches with him, so I'm not sure what he would've produced.

The two rows on the left are GCM eggs I have in the incubator right now.

Thanks for dropping in Kristi! The golden cuckoo marans roo i got from you last year turned out to be gigantic, but most importantly he was a VERY good rooster. I miss him very very much, and fortunately I hatched out some eggs that he had fertilized right before he died and i got one rooster. Its half silkie but it turned out very handsome and has definitely gotten his great rooster qualities. Id like to get another large rooster but I have to figure out how to get rid of three that i dont really want right now... at least two

Yes, I recommended Preparation H.

Don't assume it was the Australorp who had bloody eggs. You should probably go out and check all your girls vents. A mite infestation, or lice, chew on the vent tissues because the birds' can't reach them back there. Anyway, it causes scabbing and when an egg passes through the vent, the scabs can open up and bleed on the egg. So... check all your girls back ends.

Thanks for the advice. I'm letting her free range in my yard this morning. the rest are in the run so no one will bother her. She looks a little better. I'll have to do a check on everyone, though to see if anyone else has issues.

SO beautiful!!!

Elizabeth, mine is looking better as well. From what I read on prolapsed vents, I expect the problem to occur again, so I'm expecting to cull her if necessary. I've read about others making good recoveries, too.

I have made an executive decision. This year I refuse to worry about how hot my coop is, so i have moved my nesting boxes to outside. There. done. no more chickens in the coop during the day!

Hi, fellow Nevadans!
I'm brand-new here and have NO experience with chickens at all. I'm a city girl married to a country boy, and he's slowly introducing me to the rural lifestyle. Our goal is to get as self-sufficient as possible with chickens, other livestock, and aquaponics.
I don't have any chickens yet- my first batch ever is currently ordered and set to mail in a week or two. Soon, we'll have 24 Plymouth Barred Rocks!

Hubby and I have found all our coop and run supplies and we're going to start building soon! We're in Sandy Valley - about an hour from Vegas, but we're in and out of Vegas a few times a week.

WELCOME! You will love having chickens!

Congrats Sunny!!!!!

I've been worried about him, but then I have to remember Cisco was the same way and he's doing fine now at almost 22!!!! But Miguel and I used to hang out and do a lot of things. Dakotah just has no interests.

Thanks, Kim!
Yeah I think we will always worry about one kid or another. Not always the same kid.

Ahh, not peeking! So exciting!

Ha! My oldest did that with her first (our 2nd GK). Drove me crazy cause I wanted to make a bunch of stuff for the baby and I had to make most of it very neutral.

Sorry Sunny! I knew it was Sunny with a U....don't know why I typed an O...just made a mistake. That's why I have to use spell check so much. :th  :barnie

Lol. Thanks for the explanation. :)
Now I'll probably make a bunch of typos! Happens every time I correct someone. :D. Haha

congrats to you and Steve!  how exciting.
congrats!

Thanks Elizabeth! Sorry about your hen. :(

Welcome!!! :)

Hi Kirstie! Long time no hear.

Sunny - a big huge congratulations! I only raised boys and love them dearly. I hear boys are easier than girls. I have both a grandson and granddaughter, they're both fun to be around. We get to see each other once a year though and that's the hard part. The phone works wonders too and don't forget skype.

Welcome deserthomestead. That's a lot of chickens to be starting out with but it's also a lot of fun.

Elizabeth - Sorry to hear about your troubles with yourself and your little hen. I hope she gets better.

Missy - if your hen has laid an egg since her prolapse she just might be good to go now and won't prolapse again unless her immune system gets compromised.

I'm doing a lot better now. I started taking MSM and DE. It's sorta funny how it seems to be helping my health issues too, I didn't expect that to happen. The flock is doing great and are a pleasure to watch them as they do their stuff around their area. I moved their area back to the growing season placement. I'm going to plant some vegetables after all. Just not tons like last year. Missy, has the potatoes come in yet? I would like to get the sweet potatoes going right away if it's possible.

Kim - thank you for being there for me the other day.

Everyone have a great day.
