Nevadans?

Hey everyone! I saw this one Craigslist and thought I would share! Animal Place rescued over 3,000 hens are they are looking for homes!
Here's the link for more info ~ http://reno.craigslist.org/pet/4137630287.html

(I hope it's ok to post outside links on here!!)
Grass Valley Animal Place is just up the road from us and I have a friend who works there. She is the one that calls and convinces the egg producers to give Animal Place their spent hens instead of sending them off to become pet food.

I have heard though that adding these spent hens to your flock can cause health problems for them and your flock. Anyone thinking about doing this should do some research first

Thank you so much!! I'll pick some up asap! I read somewhere that you can also use wood ash in the same manner as DE. My neighbor uses a wood stove, so I'll see if I can have some of his leftover ashes until I can buy some DE and Ivomec. I personally want DE so that I can use it too, lol. I saw an article talking about how many Americans are infected with worms and parasites and don't even know it!

Plus people report many other benefits after using it, like healthier skin & hair and lower cholesterol & blood pressure!

Your little chicks are so adorable!! All of my girls were at least a month or older when I got them, so I never had the joy of cuddling little fuzzy chicks, lol! If one of my girls go broody in the spring, I'm tempted to "lease" a rooster, lol!

I have heard of using wood ash, but have never tried it. DE is so white and clean and ash sounds so dirty

There are always hatching eggs available to slip under a broody

LOL, actually, the website I saw the wood ash thing on, her chickens look pretty rough after she rubbed them with ash! I kind of felt sorry for the poor birds.

And you're totally right about purchasing eggs. I looked up if there was a rooster stud service and there so were so many stories of roosters killing off whole flocks, even after they were put in 30 days quarantine! I've changed my mind on that idea!!

So, hopefully is someone goes broody, I'll buy some true ameraucana eggs, and maybe some marans. They both would look so pretty next to my green, white and light brown eggs! Or maybe an interesting breed, like the La Fleche

Might you have some of these available at the end of January? Do you attend the poultry show in Stockton? I don't want to have any shipped but if you go to the show, I'd be interested in picking some up from you.

Please send me a PM to discuss this.

Hey everyone, i just wanted t see if any one was intewrested in a Bantam RIR Roo and Pullet. They are still really young. They do have a 25 watt light at night but not during the day. they live outside They are really cute and and could easily be hand trained. They are about 2 months old but still look like chicks just fully feathered. They are free to any of my friends on BYC and i can deliver if it not to far. I will post some pictures tomorrow. These are really small birds when fully grown. They was raised be a LF (one of the top of the pecking order) hen so they are not little weak things. They know how to dig for food, forage and will eat any veggies you give them. They are not afraid of my cats and will stand their ground when confronted. You could easily add these two little ones to your flock and not worry.

I hope to make it to the Stockton show in January, but another option is meeting me if you are heading down I-80. I frequently meet people at the park and ride in Auburn with hatching eggs and chicks

We should start talking about the Stockton show now. I'm so totally going this year!! I went once with Sheryl and her husband, and that's when I met Aubrey and Mark!! I want to meet more BYC people, haha. This year I'm going to save up for it, so I have some extra cash to get a few pretty birds. ^.^

I love the chick pictures. I must. not. dust off. the incubator... I will be strong.

This might sound like a strange question, but does anyone know of any local jobs that offer tuition reimbursement?
