Nevadans?

Bears! I hope not. I guess I have more research to do.

Yes, I would recommend interviewing your neighbors to see if there have been incidents with bears nearby in the past. If there's no history with bears where you live, I wouldn't worry about it much, usually if people are vigilant not to attract bears in the first place, they don't come.

Hello, I'm new to BYC and I'm in Northern Nevada, Lemmon Valley. We just freshened up existing coop on our property and added a run. We are brand new to chickens, and worried about predators. What are the common predators for this area?
Hello! I live in Lemmon Valley (Birch and Arkansas) and we DO NOT have bears. Thank goodness. We do have coyotes, but a fenced yard and a large dog will keep them far away. We are also 'lucky' enough that our high desert climate means no racoons, skunks, or smaller predators.

I do have two large dogs that scare off any interested cats, which I know helps. We have a very open coop and have even let the chickens free range before, with no losses to outside predators.

PS - You are welcome to come over and meet my 'Lav AM,' that means Lavender Ameracauna. AKA Purple Chicken!

I walked our property and checked with neighbors. No bears for the past 5 years. YEAH!!!

I would love to meet a purple chicken. I saw a photo of a Lavender Orpington and was dumb struck. So beautiful.

I'm sad to miss the Turlock meet up! But I'll have my new babe (hopefully) by then. I hope it's a great turnout .

Wondering- your bantam chocolate are orph or ???
I'm growing out pita pinta, faverolle, bresse , fbcm, bantam Colombian rocks, in addition to my layers coop and my olandsk breeders! As if I need more but... I've been wanting bantam chocolate for a while now!
They're AMs.

I can home to a real mess on Mother's Day. Posted on the CA whole state thread. Hope everyone here is doing ok.

Wanted to mention about wire. I do use hardware cloth, but I also use stucco wire. It's not strong enough to keep a bear out, but it's stronger than chicken wire and cheaper, so thought I'd pass that along.

Here's a video of the 2 pullets I picked up from Candy and Lacey with her babies of course:

Looks like the Ameraucana hens are enjoying your yard

Your black laced red Wyandotte hen is so cute with her chicks! Mine was a real good mamma too.

Your Marans rooster is so nice to the ladies

Candy - Everyone is doing great. Mortadella will peck here and there just to say she's over them and there was nest box issues too. Mortadella needed to lay an egg and Betty wouldn't let her use the same box she laid an egg in. But that was it.

Lacey is a really good mama, that's why I let her be mama again. She's very gentle and she makes sure no one bothers her babies.

Alberto is a fine gentleman, he keeps the order in check and politely asks the girls if he can mate.

Amanda is still afraid of the girls, she keeps running away from them even though they keep trying to say hi in a nice way to her.

Anybody in the Reno area interested in some banty pullets? I ordered too many and need to downsize. They were hatched march 24th. I have another order coming in and I'm trying to keep only what I really really want. I ordered a surprise assortment and ended up with a pile of chicks it was so much fun I ordered another, but I really don't need a billon birds.

I am so glad they are doing well

Watch them with the heat. I had several panting in my chicken house last night. It was 91 degrees here yesterday. After today the temps are dropping into the 70's thank goodness!!

Hopefully Amanda will make friends with them. That would be nice for her and them.

That sure is tempting, but I have 19 d'Anver, 3 GCM, 4 W/BW Ameraucana and 2 Silkie chicks right now and I can't seem to part with any of them

Good luck finding them homes
