The khaki quail are really pretty. And can you believe that one of the babies out of them is a "solid" khaki and that Boggy Bottom Bantam's said it is the ONLY known solid khaki as far as he knows!I saw the pics of your d'Anver chicks. She is awesome. Love her color! Ughhhhhhhhh. Might just have to make one run a bantam area to protect them this fall and winter from hawks. No issues at all lately but he little guys are definitely easy pickings next to huge marans and Ameraucanas.
They are VERY addicting!! And no bigger than a fat pigeon, so they wouldn't last long outside. She is awesome. Love her color! Ughhhhhhhhh. Hi kmollyhughes - I have Sunny's BCMs and none of them are egg eaters. But I'm hearing a lot of people are having issues with egg eaters right now. I had issues a couple of years ago but fixed it when I changed the feed. I learned chickens will eat their eggs looking for Lysine and Methionine, which, is found in chicken eggs. If you change your feed that has increased levels of this amino acid then you will end egg eating. I'm feeding my flock the Swanson Farms Layer Breeder 20% because the Lysine level is 1.10% and the Methionine level is .39%. This is just my opinion and others who have also changed to this feed and the egg eating has stopped. Feathers are better on the birds as well. Again, just my opinion.

How are your birds doing in the heat? I have misters going all over for mine. It has been 100 degrees here. The Polish are so funny. They stand right in the mist of water and get drenched and love it! The other birds don't want to get wet.
I like snakes, lizards . . . all those reptiles. Just not the poisonous ones where they could cause bodily harm!!Luckily the 5-6 snakes around our house this year have been bull snakes. We have the kids pretty well trained to turn and run when they see a snake. One draw back of living on property, right? Love the space and quiet but you get all the creepy, crawly, slithery stuff. Lol![]()
He really is pretty though.....![]()
Bad girl! Sounds like it is a habit.Okay, finally checked feed tag. 20% protein, Lysine (min) 1.10%, Methionine (min) .50.I guess she's just naughty. Noooooo! I put her back with her flock to test her. Nope. Ate her egg. Guess she goes back in with the teenagers with her rolling box. Bad girl!!![]()
Wish I had a yard with greenery, like a lawn for my chickens to hide out in to keep cool. So far they are managing and it is around 91 today, which is much better! The best thing is that it is going to cool down at night. They look so miserable in the hot chicken house, even with the fan going. It's been 100' + here also. Blah! I would love misters on the new pens. I hose the coops down a couple times a day and have fans going for the girls that are laying. My yard has lots of trees and grass, so the ones not laying doing fine. Lots of frozen zucchini blocks and water changes. I cleaned my coops last weekend and it seems like I have more flies the last few days than when it was dirty. Waaay better than last year though. Holy flies! I heard that from a few neighbors too, so hopefully it stays like it is. (Not too bad)
