Nevadans?

NV thread. If you birds have a single comb they are Barred Rocks and a rose comb if they are Dominiques. (Of course they might be cuckoo Marans or some conglomerate too!

) Hey, I can fix you up with roosters, you just have to come and get 'em.
hmm.png
I've got Lt. Brahmas and Ameraucanas though.

Sunny, I would have to say that the Dels are some of the best. I wonder how vegaschick's are coming along. Come on, you know you can't keep the football thing to yourself. Around here it's the Cardinals, and I don't even follow football. When do we get a 'bator update?

Have a great weekend, all.

BTW, it looks like we will have some Dwarf Nigerian babies this fall.

Well see that is why I was saying Barred Rock, they do not have rose combs but they are a little on the narrow side so that's why I was thinking maybe Dominique. I am almost 90% sure they are Barred.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Lt. Brahmas so we will be seeing each other soon I hope.

I just found an ad on Craig's for chickens last night. 21 hens plus a Rooster. There are a ton of different kinds in the mix. They wanted $8/hen unless you buy all of them so the ppl are bringing them (all of them) by the house tomorrow for me to look at and potentially buy. They sent some pics of a few and it looks like 5 of the hens are Silver Laced Wyndottes. They have Leghorns, Legbars, Polish, Japanese Bantams, Sebrights, Araucanas, etc. So if I end up getting them, anything I do not really want and anyone that is interested in what I put on the list maybe we can trade/barter, etc. I am such a sucker for a chicken face though so depending on temperament I might keep them all.

Cheers... and hopefully back to bed for a few more winks...

I am right there with you, I have never lived anywhere that scrap pieces of anything or just basic trash is so expensive. "It's going in the dump unless you pay me over brand new prices" seems to be the motto around here. I do not mean to bash "Nevadans", I really do not even think that most of the ppl I talk to about their "trash" are really Nevadans anyway but it is still mind blowing to me how the system works around here and I have lived here 11 years. You would think that I would be used to it by now. Ok so I will keep an eye out for you, I know a couple of ppl I can ask who know someone who knows someone.

BIG TIME Niners fan here, I had the biggest crush on Joe growing up. I have always had a weird and very strange outlook on football and from what I can tell so do you. You see, *coughclearsthroatwhispersquickly* I am admitted 49'er's fan AND Dallas. *completesilence* Yes it is true. My parents were HUGE Dallas fans back in the glory days and thus that made us kids Dallas fans but then in the late late late 80's Joe/Rice/Young hit the scene and it was like reliving those Dallas glory days. The underdogs were making a comeback and no one could stop their superhuman team abilities.

Although I have never really been that big on watching football during the season, I do keep track of how the teams are doing until the finale and I always have this huge lump in my throat and a silent prayer goes up that I will see the 49'ers again at the Superbowl kicking some superior ass.
smile.png
This is actually the first place that I have lived where the home team was someone that I was rooting for. You have no idea what it is like to live in Miami and be a HUGE 49'ers/Dallas fan. It is like taking your life into your own hands. I actually went to a Panthers/Steelers game in Charlotte, NC (when I lived in Raleigh) and sat on the Panther's side of the stadium rooting for the Steelers. Which are my mortal enemies because of being such a huge Dallas fan but when your team is not there you have to recognize the next best thing and go for it.

Ok, how is that for late night/early morning rambling? Am I in? Are we kindred spirits yet?
wink.png

!!!!!*HUGE SHOCKED INTAKE OF BREATH*!!!!!
A Niners fan AND a Cowboys fan?!!! That's sacrilege! That's even worse than being a Niners/Rams fan!!!
gig.gif
The only thing worse than that would be if you were a Niner and Raiders' fan!!! On the days the Niners and Rams played each other, I was very unpopular in the stands since I insisted on wearing only Gold to show my alleigence to both teams (but at least I wasn't in the "Black Hole" where I would be knifed for such a heinous act).
I was the only one, is a sea of red... Oh well, at least Niner fans are more civilized about this kind of thing. One fan turned to me once and said "well at least you're not wearing blue!", to which I replied "my underwear's blue". Eglyntine, you and I are gonna be censored for sure!

OK, sorry folks, rant over (I think). Seriously it's all ke_ben's fault! I did warn him.
big_smile.png

So, how about those Delawares?

"Aubrey..." (says an evil, echoey, hypnotic voice which fills the room) "you know you want more.... don't resist... give in. It is your destiny,ny,ny,ny,ny."
No, I didn't get much sleep last night. Why do you ask? As you've probably guessed by now, we weren't up early, we were up that late last night!

Errrrrr....

I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and I'm both a Niners and Raiders fan, having attended many games of each.
roll.png

But, then, that was back in the day of Kenny Stabler and Joe Montana.... Not following so much now.. Raiders (and fans) got a little too hard core for my tastes whilst the Niners swung the other way on the pendulum. (Into PBR Bull-Riding instead.... and, yes, I'm that weird lady rooting for the bulls!)

Just switchin' one cowpie for another, I guess...

Yes, back in the day, when Raider's fans weren't the ones most likely to have a probation officer. (This is true. At least it was 5 years ago) When Kenny and Joe played it was a good time to live in the Bay Area. *sigh* I really miss those days!

A friend of ours is a Broncos fan and she wore her orange jersey into the Black Hole (the Oakland Coliseum for you non-football folks). Several people threatened her life and since she thought they were kidding she just laughed and ignored it til one guy shoved her up against a wall and put a knife to her throat. She agreed to leave quickly when that happened! I've always been glad I never lived in Oakland (I know there are a few nice areas).

Have you ever lived in Chicago? I assume since you're a Bulls fan...
I never got into basketball but youngest DS loves it!

SunnyDawn - Rule #2 is you can't mention a certain group whose acronym sounds like an eastern Mediterranean type of bread (oh, that's right - you're tired!), I mean Pita bread.
big_smile.png
They were mentioned (gratuitously, I thought) at the end of Holly31's video clip.
rant.gif

I was born and raised in SoCal myself, but never liked the Rams. Mostly because John Robinson was so pig-headed. He would stick with his game plan to the bitter end even when it was obvious to everyone in the 1st quarter that the game plan wasn't working!

I was ecstatic (along with most everyone else I knew) when the Raiders moved down there. But, you think it's been hard being a Niners fan lately? Needless to say, I rarely watch football anymore.

Eglyntine I love SLWs!

Beautiful birds - if you get them please post some pics.

SunnyDawn what size pieces of SS do you need, and what gauge are you looking for? I know someone with a machine shop in MoundHouse - I will ask if they have any scraps laying around.

Quote:
Well it's been a while since I worked in a sheet metal shop (I ran a lathe except for 1 year in a sheet metal shop 34 years ago) but the piece that the heating plates are being mounted to I need a fairly rigid piece that's about 18"X 26" (could be smaller, I can use spacers) in about 24-16 gauge. The piece in front will be 18"X 20" (again could be a little smaller) in anything he has available that will hold it's shape, anything from 32 to 22 gauge.

Most machine shops don't carry the lighter gauges, since they need to be thick enough to mill, so I would accept anything he has laying around that I can cut with my home tools. He also may have a relationship with a sheet metal shop cause a lot of shops need to farm out pieces of jobs to other shops. My access to tools these days is limited but I do have a small band saw for metal and an angle grinder. I don't want aluminum sheets because they will pit in a humid area but the plain SS sheet metal is fine I don't need a polished surface or anything and I don't care if it's got some damage.
I will pay for the material, I just can't afford much.

Thanks for any help. I appreciate it!

Well I am such a sucker for a chicken I had totally forgotten how much I adore chickens and now I understand why my father always did the official ordering of them when I was under-age. Not without money as I had been holding down 3 jobs since I was 11 but it never occured to me that I could have taken that money to buy chickens. Now without that reasonable hand I fear for my yard and checking account. If I buy 30 Cornish Rock X's in the Spring do you think the extra meat in the freezer will make up for the lack of other food in the house?

We ended up with 23 in all, and they need some serious help and coddling but they were definitely given the affection they need just a little inexperience with how they should be taken care of to produce highly beautiful birds. We've got as listed:

Bantams:

3 Buff Japanese all Hens
3 Buff Aracuana - 2 Hens, 1 Rooster

Regular Sized:

1 Legbar - Hen
5 Black Star - Hens
1 Red Star - Hen
3 White Crested Black Polish - Hens
5 Silver Laced Wyndottes - Now here comes the confusion. The ppl that I bought these from were told that these were Sebrights but they do not look anything like any Sebrights I have ever seen. They look exactly like all of the Silver-Laced Wyndottes I have ever looked at. They are definitely not bantams, they do not have the black feet and they are heavy birds. I am going to take pictures tomorrow and post them but maybe in my chicken hiatas they came up with a cross that I am not aware of and you all can set me straight.
2 White Leghorns

They had a Japanese rooster but I guess he was super mean (he picked the hell out of one of the buff Japanese hens and one of the Legbar hen so I guess they ate him last night. Anyway, I will get out these tomorrow and take some pictures on the ones I am not 100% sure on of what they are and hopefully someone can confirm that I have Silver Laced Wyndottes.

Take Care...

Eglyntine - Welcome!

SunnyDawn, Peep_Show & Eglyntine - Just wanna say that I'm also a Niner's fan from way back...and my dad has always loved Green Bay so I kinda inherited that, too. I also want to state that I am SHOCKED that someone (ahem!) could be a fan of both the Niner's and the Cowboys simultaneously and not simply combust. Wow...hate them (Dallas)...and the Bronco's...and the Dolphin's, but less passionately than the other two. I'm not rabid about it or anything. I have a bro that lives in TX and we just don't talk football.
wink.png
Don't really follow too much anymore. Just catch a game here and there with my dad...which they usually lose. It does makes it all the sweeter when they win, though, right?!?

Right. So. Back to chickens.... Here's a couple of pullets I hatched out & am anxiously awaiting an egg from...
Bella (white EE) is 24 wks & Honey (BO X Red Sex-Link) is 17 wks.
44629_dsc02948.jpg

Next, just for ke_ben, here's my Dels (hatched by ke_ben)...Dover (crossbeak) with Laurel in front and Smyrna in the back. They are 15 wks and all pullets, I think. This pic was taken about a month ago. It's nearly impossible to get a good pic of all three at once so I had to take what I could get.
44629_dsc02180.jpg

Also at 15 wks are several EE's from Jones Feed. This is Lady Jane, Harriet, Kitty...
44629_dsc02905.jpg

...and Fanny and an Olive-Egger (BCM X EE) hatched by ke_ben, named Lizzie. I love her coloring and can't wait to see her egg.
44629_dsc02817.jpg

I love that their patterns are different enough that I can easily tell them apart. Once again, in order from front to back going left to right are Harriet, Kitty, Lizzie, Fanny and Lady Jane. The EE's are sweet and friendly, but Lizzie is really quite flighty. I can hold her for about a half a minute before she bolts, which is sad cuz I wanna examine her awesome feathers and face. Oh well...at least she's a girl and different than the others.

Trust me being a fan of both Dallas and SF has never been easy. Ppl just get SO angry when they hear it. I am just a person that loves to see the game played like it should and both teams have shown their ups and downs but they (in the old days) always showed such amazing teamwork and sportsmenship that you cannot help but fall in love with both teams. I was a Dallas fan looooong before I was a 49'er's fan but no one can watch Montana/Rice/and the rest of the team and not say they were spectacular. What they are doing now is pretty laughable but that can be said of the entire sport these days. When you sit and watch THE game of the year where the Titans of the sport are supposed to come together to show who deserves the title of God and every time the ball is thrown everyone skids down on the ground in fear that they might get tackled you kind of lose interest in any team that's for sure. Although I do stay loyal to the sport in hopes that one day we'll all wake up and realize that in some ppl's desire to feel better about themselves we have lost that hunger for excellence and desire for adventure and passion, and those teams will once again deserve the loyalty their fans have given them.

Now for something completely different.... OMG I cannot wait until the sun comes up so I can take pictures of the new girls and show you all.
wink.png
It's chicken passion I have today and it will have to do for the time being.
