update. STILL NO GOSH DERN EGGS!

my nhr, Lucy, is squatting everytime i pick her up.
My del, Chuck, is doing a pretty egg song in the morning, and my br , Agnes, is doing one about two hours after her.

all of those girls are nice and red in the face. My orp and my e.e. are both pink, but the orps waddles are growing rappidly and i cant tell what to look for in the e.e.

ive been waiting five months for eggies, and i can wait to see one. Ive decided that lucy is my fave, and even though she is the youngest... im rooting for her for a first egg

Hi Sunny!!!

On my way to Reno!!!!

weeeeeeeeee

My girls are all going to celebrate daughter # 2's birthday, so they're dragging mom along.

Seasame has a new name. My girl is Bonnie (after my mom), so after days and days of thought? duh

Clyde!

ummmm btw I ended up with the non stop crower didn't I?

Anyway I'll be in Reno most of sunday,so call or email if you feel like saying hi.

Hi Kim! I will give you a call. Enjoy your time up here. The weather must have cooled down just for you. We are really enjoying this free water for our gardens right now. BTW no, believe it or not, Clyde was not the worst crower. That distinction goes to "The General" who crowed non-stop and was the loudest roo I've ever heard!
hmm.png

On the other hand the one I kept was the quietest of all the roos though not quite as pretty. I did just buy a roo that is quiet and pretty though (so far). So I have 2 roos again (just don't tell my neighbors).

aubreynoramarie we're rooting for you! (well I'm rooting for the Del of course)

How to seal a bag and make it air-tight!

Cut up a disposable water bottle and keep the neck and top,
as in photo.

Insert the plastic bag through the neck and screw the top – to seal.

The bottle is made to be air-tight, such that water will not leak,
the secret lies with the top and screw!

This is a great idea to share. Good for us and the environment too.

had to share, the pics are not needed, you know what to do...

Genny!!! We have peeping!!!!!
ya.gif

I went out this morning to collect eggs and when I saw my RIR was off of the nest (the eggs were still very warm) I decided that would be a good time to candle them. I saw fully formed chicks in at least 2 of the eggs and 2 more look pretty far along as well (just not as big). So I put them back (my little RIR was there waiting and hopped right back up on them) and went to gather up the eggs under the other gal... but I heard peeping coming from one of the eggs!!! At least one of your babies has broken the air sac!

I'm sooo excited!!! I've only incubated eggs, I've never had a broody hatch out eggs for me before. This is sooo cool!

I'll keep you all updated!

I love having a broody hatch them - while I get more with the bator (unless I have multiple broodies) the broody is soooo much less work

And I am all about lazy!

You're not kidding! This has been effortless so far! Do we need to move the broodies and the eggs/chicks into the brooder area of the coop? I don't see how the babies will be able to get up and down off the nest where they are now... There also isn't room in the nest for food and water (well I can hang a small bottle with a nipple waterer by the side of the nest and maybe do something similar with chick starter feed).

Yeah, you'll need to move them. If you have tiny dishes - even like 1/4 cup measure thingies - you can give them a bit of water and feed in a couple. Mom will teach them to eat and drink - she will even crumble the crumbles for the chicks - it really is incredible

If you can, maybe move them tonight. Mom usually stays on the nest about 2 to 3 days after the first one hatches - gives the rest time to hatch and get their dancing legs going. Then she will go any place with them that she can and the babies will disappear thru any chicklet sized hole (even 1 inch chicken wire).

Oh you will have so much fun!
