They are bush/hedge roses but like the tree roses I got in this order, they are long stem and the blooms are just enormous. (Or should be if they mimic the ones on the show like they are supposed to)

Cottage Farms 2-in-1 Ink Spots & St. Patrick's Tree Rose - $55.00
The Ink Spot has velvety dark red petals and the St. Patrick has these gorgeous yellow-green blooms. From what they were showing on QVC these have these HUGE fist size blooms and surprisingly really long stemmed as well.

St. Patrick - this picture does not show it as well, but the green on these is a lot more pronounced than what it shows here.
Cottage Farms 2-in-1 Pink & Red Fountain Tree Rose - $55.00
These are a 2-in-1 tree with Pink and Red roses but they are also cascading, so it is almost like a weeping willow with roses. The plants on the show were just amazing after 1 year's growth and I could not pass them up.
Right now I have one light pink tree rose that my DH bought me for Mother's Day two years ago and one Rosy Red Robin Hood Hedge Rose plant left out of the 30 I originally bought. I think it was the place I was getting them from. I have not had anything they have sent me survive so I am going with a totally different nursery this year.
I have had the worst time trying to keep roses alive here. Back East it is so easy to grow roses and I always had a ton of them but it has been really hard here. I have gone full on seige on my yard the last four years trying to get the soil to the point where I can grow my roses like I want and hopefully this year will be the year. In an attempt to add nutrients and green manure to my soil AND cut down on my chicken feed bill this summer, I am going to plant the remainder of my yard and the chicken runs with Mammoth Red Mangels and then a pasture mix that contains sudan grass, fieldpeas, ryegrass, and rapeseed with red clover mixed in. I hear that bees love this mix as well. I wanted to add Alfalfa to the mix but my Mom is super allergic and just smelling alfalfa can send her over the edge so it probably would not be a good idea to have it in my lawn. *LOL*

dude guys, im sorry to change the subject but i am having the crappyest time with this incubator! need advice! I've been messing with it for two days now and i cant get it to stay at 99.5. im so confused! i even put four thermometers in there and you guessed it...they all say something different. did you guys have this hard of a time initially temping your incubators?

My rose bushes seemed to grow fine - the problem I had was the blooms would only stay on them for a few weeks - basically the month of June. Other than the white roses in front of the house, which was the north side hence they were in shade most of the time. That's what my suspicion was - the ones in back were in full sun for several hours everyday.

I know exactly how you feel!
There are no restrictions on mason bees and the boys are safe with them around since they don't sting. In a few years when they are old enough you can install some bee hives for honey but I'm not sure about any restrictions here for honey bees. Most cities require so much distance from buildings and property lines. You may also be required to get permission from your neighbors. Reno is pretty lax about this kind of thing but they do state that if a neighbor complains you will have to relocate livestock. Don't know if that applies to bees. Neighborhood CC&Rs and Housing Associations are much stricter though! So it would probably depend more on your neighborhood.
BTW, those roses are gorgeous! Love that weeping rose! I will have to take some pics of my roses in the spring. All of my old pictures are stuck on the computer that crashed.
Aubrey is that the one that had cracks in it or did you trade that one in? How much of a variable do you get with the thermometers? No I never had a hard time with my homemade bators but they were small and vented and the area of California that I'm from is really temperate so we didn't get temperature extremes. Here my household temp, inside, varies a LOT. I would assume the temps are somewhere in the midrange of what the thermometers say. My only other advice is where is the bator at? The best place to keep an incubator is in a closet (on an inside wall) where it is far from drafts and temp extremes. I've also heard that some folks have had better luck when they replace the wafer in the thermostat that the bator comes with. I'm using an electronic thermostat with a wafer thermostat as a backup for mine. What does your bator use?
BTW I'd love to look at the greenhouse your sister is selling.
Ron I suspect it's the variety of roses you have in the back yard that is the problem not the sun light. Roses love full sun but most varieties are spring blooming only unless you dead-head them. All you need to do to keep roses blooming all summer is snap off the dead roses when they are dead. You can just snap off the head itself or you can use pruning shears and trim down to an outward facing bud (this will promote new growth). Believe it or not most of the problems folks have with roses are they water them too much or plant them too close. They like deep, infrequent waterings so a soaker hose on low or a drip system is ideal. They also need room to breathe or they are prone to mildews & black spot etc. (though this is less of a problem here than where I'm from).
Pruning them a couple time per season will keep them from becoming too bushy (prune inside branches and thin out scraggly limbs with sharp bypass pruning shears) and will help air flow around leaves and flowers. If you plant them with other plants make sure they have room for airflow or plant with plants like clematis that don't overwhelm them. Actually there is one type of clematis that would be terrible for roses but most clematis stays light and airy and are a great companion plant for roses.

The wafer is the round disc part you see pictured. You can replace just the wafer, you don't have to replace the whole thermostat but first you may want to try to turn the screw a little to the left (although your control knob should be doing exactly that).
I know a lot of folks here on BYC said that just replacing the wafer did the trick.

whoa nope, it doesnt have one of those. the thermostat this thing came with is just a little cheapy mercury temperature thingy. idk, what we call them...you know, with the red line and what- have you? haha, idk. i think ive got it figured out now, though, jhaha thanks for the help
