Nevadans?

Willamina looks like some sort of EE (lookit the green feet!) And, big comb, could be a roo. How are the wattles on the side?

My uneducated guess is that Sweet Pea is a roo and possibly a BO.... or a golden comet hen. It's the wattles on the side that have me thinkin' BOY. But, of course, a golden comet is a sex-link, so the roo would be white-like if a Golden Comet..

The rest look like hens thus far....but you'll know better when the hormones kick in in a couple of weeks and the saddle feathers sprout.

Save some of those juleps for me Darlin'! There is nothing better for sitting on the porch on a hot balmy summer day. I miss Kentucky and North Carolina this time a year. Everything is covered in a fine yellow dust from the trees blooming. The weather has not gotten too hot and humid yet and all of the spring lilacs are in full bloom, lingering lightly in the air, making everything smell sweet and lovely in the late afternoons. When you drive around the countryside it is like driving through a rainbow as everyone's tulips and gladiolas are in full bloom across their yards.

Much different than spring time here that is for sure. Good luck on your race Dee, do you have your fancy hat to wear?

I agree with you about Spring..... Sure do miss it here! I had one iris come up and enjoyed it for two days before the 95 degree weather turned it into pulp on a stick. I just got back from the San Francisco Bay Area and the stuff that's in bloom there I had going early last month (and now long gone...). It would be nice to have some prolonged color in the yard rather than the Nevada State Color of sage green (or dusty sage green if it's summer). My herbs do great, though. The trade-off for the early summer that devours spring is our mild-on-the-bones fall and winter, which probably explains why the second biggest industry in Las Vegas is retirement. We've got lots of transplanted folks who with their druthers will never shovel snow again.

Dang! I make a fine julep, if I may say so myself. The race was dismal (well, for those that bet on Horse 5 and 7 anyway, who both ran well but not long enough), but nice for the pre-race "color" not to be focused on some predicted favorite. The backstories were actually more inspiring and interesting than the race. And, of course, the bourbon-inspired nap later in the afternoon apres Derby was the lovely frosting on the cupcake.

Happy Mother's Day to all!

welcome new-comers!

okay so today was full on SPRING CLEANING here at the mini-ranch! Run and coop- top to bottom. Darla and midge let me know just how displeased they were at my very terrifying scrubby sponge. And WTH- how these birds managed to get poop in certain spots i will never know, but i am glad its all done!

Happy Mother's Day everyone!!!

Windys Glad to see more folks from the valley on here. Looking forward to seeing your new chickens and helping to figure out who's what.

Thanks ke_ben for the hatching eggs. Will let you know how things turn out. It's always a pleasure to spend time with your family (the humans, goats, dogs, cats, ducks, pig and chickens) and your wife is so fun, we all love her! Thanks so much for enabling my addiction.

Just so everyone knows...his new BCM roo is GORGEOUS and huge!!! Can hardly wait for the young blue CM to grow up. He will also be a looker I am sure.

Happy to get home and find all my little chicks up on the roosts with their mothers. Love it when things work out like they're supposed to.
