Nevadans?

Haha, I didnt even know it was snowing!! I thought it totally skipped Lemmon Valley, but I went out and we have almost an inch! a half hour ago I was bringing laundry in off the line and it was clear. You guys! I was blissfully ignorant.

Aubrey - very cute.

Sunny - Let Samson out to play, it's his first snow.

Today was cloudy here too! No snow of course.

Went to the year round farmer's market, it was huge and great. I got a lot of stuff today too.

He's been out three times already and Steve just let him out again. I know we are just reinforcing the whining. Dogs are like kids, if something works they will keep repeating it.

aubrey, they are so cute!!!

i love that speckled one with the mohawk. feather dusters are a good idea. have to remember that for next time. ha ha ha. you'd think i would have no need for chicks in awhile with 25 of them now but I'm already thinking ahead.

sheryl, sounds like fun over there, even if it was cloudy. enjoy the warmth!

it's snowing here too. jose got some of those square concrete deck blocks. the wood frame will fit right into the groove on top. I think they will work well. we're going to put a bunch of them under the base to make sure it's secure. we didn't get everything fixed today because i locked my keys in the trunk when i was leaving they gym. so jose and the kids had to come all the way to unr to let me back in. then jose went to the gym and then it was dark. what a day! i haven't locked my keys in the trunk since I was pregnant (I did it twice then).

i had a good workout though. i deadlifted 185 lbs. not bad if I do say so myself.

the chicks were a little freaked out by the wind but were happy when i put the heat lamp on. i also put another of the brooder containers in there on its side and put some bedding in there. it makes a cozy corner area for them.

Hello Nevadans!

I'm Laura, I live in Battle Mountain which is basically close to nowhere

and I just joined this site today. If anyone has any advice as to breeds that work best in both hot and cold weather I would appreciate hearing from you! I'm considering Barred Rocks, Australorpes, Orpingtons, and/or Wyandottes, but am totally open to suggestions. I guess I should post a little about myself....I'm originally from California, but have lived in Montana for the past 7 years. We have 3 adult sons, a 15 year old daughter and at the moment, 2 grandchildren.....this number will change to 4 sometime in May. We also have 4 dogs, a Great Pyr, Lab, Border Collie mix, and Scottish Terrier, and 7 elderly cats. I've spent most of the evening on this site and I really love all the practical information I've found, I'm looking forward to the discussions here and can't wait to start getting chicks

glad you joined the thread! All of those breeds should do well in either heat or cold. I have some of each of those. My chicks are 7 weeks old and I just moved them out to the coop. good luck. it's so much fun and really addicting!

Hey Laura!

Those breeds all work out fine here. Actually you can pretty much raise anything in Nevada as along as you have good shelters in the winter and shade/misters in the summer. All those chick pictures of Aubrey's a page back are silkies and Polish and such, and they thrive out here as well. I love Montana, or I think I do. You'll have to tell me about it sometime.

When Sunny comes back on, She'll add you to the first post and you'll officially be a Nevada Peep.
