Nevadans?

I can't remember which one, but one of the hatcheries offers a barnyard mix. Turkeys, chickens, ducks, gesse and who knows what else. Really cheap though at certain times of the year. Maybe you all could order something like that.

Hey, I forgot to tell you guys...I won my case in court. I didn't say anything before because you know how posting on the net can come back to bite you. The neighbors dogs killed my ducks at my pond. They also killed 2 five month old pullets and an 18 month old Pekin hen. They in turn charged me with "ducks at large." They said my ducks traveled 1/4 mile through rocks and sagebrush, down a steep hill, with no open water or forage, to aggravate their dogs. The judge threw out the ducks at large charge. They were found guilty of running a puppy mill, 3 dogs at large charges, no licenses for over 12 dogs, and dogs that were harrassing, maiming, killing livestock. They were hit with almost $2,500.00 in fines that were suspenden as long as there are NO incidents in the next 12 months. I get $93.00 to replace the ducks. I am still debating about taking them to civil court for damages. Damages including loss of income for 18 month (my duck program was set back 18 months) amounts to $5,953.25. NRS says I can ask for three times the amount of my losses which would be $17,859.76. I can go to small claims court for amounts up to $5,000.00, above that is just civil court and I would need to get a lawyer who would take 1/3 of the settlement. I'm just so tired of this, I don't know if I want to keep fighting. Their dogs were running loose over Thanksgiving weekend and I had the camera, the rifle, and the shotgun within reach. This won't be an SSS. If I have to shoot the dogs I'll be calling the sheriff to charge them with another dog at large and they will have to pay all those penalties. I know, I'm not being very nice, but after 2 years of these people (& 3 flocks of ducks) I'm done. Rant over

Glad it worked out for you. good luck on your decision on whether to pursue civil court. that's a tough one. sometimes it's better to just be done with it, but on the other hand, you won't get your money owed you. maybe your neighbors will move... i guess you can dream.

Well, i had a craptastic day at work yesterday. Trouble with a campus office.

It hasn't been resolved yet but i did at least talk to my client to smooth things over. That whole fiasco really cut into my productivity for the day. I still did get an important task done but didn't get to some other pressing issues. Then my son was up coughing a lot all night. poor thing. here's hoping for a better day today.

Let me know if there is a cattle and turkey mix available somewhere!

Congrats Kathy!!! Sounds like they don't have any plans to avoid the 12 month term of "no incidents" though if they've already let them out to run the neighborhood again.

Going to civil court can be a huge headache but small claims court is very easy to manage. Good luck whatever you choose!

Sorry about your chick with the wry neck Missy. I hope you can find a chick to keep the healthy one company if needed. This can be a tough time of year to find chicks.

So sorry to hear that your son is sick Elizabeth! Poor little guy. Hope your day goes much better today at work and that your son has a speedy recovery (usually they bounce back pretty quickly at that age, hopefully this is one of those times)!

Hardy har har!!! Cattle and chickens. Funny woman huh?

hahahahhahah But I'll let ya know if one is out there.

Great news on the case, I hope you can get more from them too. Jerks.

Wry neck. Had a neighbor that I haven't eeven seen in months now, knock on my door and ask what to do for that. Took me days to find Polyvisol without iron, but we gave it to the chick for about a wekk and after the first day it had improved soooo much it was unreal. Have you tried that yet?

Sorry things are piling up for you Elizabeth. Maybe everything will go wrong this week and Chirstmas and New Years will be smooth sailing.

Missy - Ying the Ninja Broody Chicken is demanding eggs again. I should have chicks in 21 days.

I haven't tried it yet, but I think when I get a little spare change I'll go get some. I also read that vitamin D (or is it E?) caplets, the human kind, squirted straight in the mouth are good.

Mythkat, 21 days might work, considering they would catch up with her pretty quickly. I'll see if Tender can hold on that long... this is my first experience with silkies, and I've heard wry neck is pretty common with them. Right now he's walking around like he has Bob Marley playing in his head, and when he gets spooked he runs into the back wall of the kennel/pen. It gets worse when he's stressed, like when I pick him up or mess around in the crate to change food and water.
