Nevadans?

hello again, I am finally caught up. I also do not like the ads and stuff on the side of the page. I prefer at the top or bottom instead. reminds me of when i had yahoo email.

I really missed byc on tuesday! Today I was too busy with my day off to check in until this evening.

today we picked up the posts for the run and crammed them into my cavalier. I haven't been able to open the trunk for a few weeks but I fixed it this morning with a zip tie holding the latch in place inside the trunk. i felt like Macgyver.

Hmm I also miss the right click for spell check. apparently macgyver is not in the byc dictionary.

I cleaned out the coop this afternoon and put in fresh bedding. used some straw for the first time. They were all freaked out and trampling each other in the corner at first but then they settled down and started scratching around as chickens will do. it looks good in there. More of them are hopping up on the high roosts now. We didn't get any posts put in today but we'll start that tomorrow. we are going to try the no concrete method per Ron's suggestion.

have a good night/morning!

I haven't caught all the way up yet, but NO, not a post hole digger. we have one and a it's a piece of crap. it really does nothing useful with our soil. this tool is a long iron bar with a narrow pointy sharp end and then a flat circle on the other end which will be useful for tamping down the dirt. ok, now to catch up.

Is it called an ogger?

Peep_Show: It was so great to meet you and thanks so much for the chicks and the feed! The chicks are growing like weeds. We got a big box and a bag of sand and they are in heaven, jumping, flapping, running, scratching, dusting and cheeping their little heads off. I have 2 people interested in chicks, including some males, so I think that we'll be able to find homes for them all...well, mostly all anyways.

My sister has been telling everyone that she has lots of chicks, and believe me, she doesn't only tell people she knows, either. Perfect strangers now know that we have chicks. She practically announced it in church. She makes me laugh! My favorite is when they ask her how many she has (cause she said she has a lot) and she tells them...two! When another sister asked what color they were she told her that we had green and purple chicks! She's so funny!

So, now I'm watching the shoulder feathers coming in and the combs starting to be a bit more pronounced and wagering with my dad whether they'll be boys or girls. Can hardly wait for chest feathers! I'll try to keep you updated on the outcome.

I like the new site. Whe I posted yesterday morning I thought it had been like this for a while, and everyone was all used to it.

Missy, I might have you foster them for a week or two if you dont mind. It depends on if I have a broody or not, which is what I'm hoping for right now. I'll throw in some money for feed and stuff, too, if it works out that way. Most likely I'll start getting spring fevor and want them right away though.

I'll let you know before you pick them up.

When is that show in California agian? I haev no idea where it was/is at, all I remember is that like half of us were going to pack up and go to it. Umm does that help much? lol.

See you all tomorrow!!

Heya, VegasChick!

Those chicks DO grow fast.... I was amazed in the size difference that was noticeable in the Marans that hatched a day apart. (The Faverolles had their act together and all hatched pretty much on the same day except for one straggler). I'm glad your sister is enjoying them. She is such a joyful person! Please do keep me posted on boys v. girls.... I hope you keep a Marans hen or two for yourself as they're really pretty coloring (and, supposedly, of good lineage).

BTW, the large off-white egg in the carton was FERTILE! Big ol' bullseye. Guess your roo was mega potent....that or there's some rendez-vous'ing and 'splaining to do in your neighborhood! How long ago did he exit the scene?

Hi Lacey,

The Stockton show is the 28th & 29th and we are going. So far it's Sunny & Steve, Aubrey & Mark and DH and myself. I'm planning on going the day of the show only unless there's weather then I'll go Friday and stay the night but leave early afternoon on Saturday. Let me know if you want to ride with me still?

Hi all!
Vegaschick that is such a cute story about your sister! My oldest GD thinks the chicks she held last fall are still babies. She keeps wanting to come see the "baby chicks". Boy is she gonna be disappointed. lol

OK, I finally got pics to put up but I give up on trying to get any decent shots. They won't cooperate! They are either too close or too far away and they just will not pose well like Mama our mascot. One cockerel is so facinated with the camera that he keeps trying to climb up me for a better look!
lol.png
No I have no pics of him. He wouldn't stay in front of the camera. He wants to be right beside it or above it. Anyway as you can see the girls have no red combs yet just a pale pink so it will be awhile before I see eggs.

Here are great examples of over melanized and under melanized (the pullets in the middle not the cockerels.

Here's my wall flower. He has no feathering on his legs and he always hugs the wall like he's embarrased or something. haha

And a couple more pics...

Tried to catch this cockerel all fluffed up but the shutter was not quite fast enough.

And another photo of Samson and Delilah just for the heck of it.

Wow submitting pics is sooo much easier!
