i went out to check on the birds this am to find my one roo with a half blue comb... poor guy.. it's my gimp one i just got off craig's list.. he can't fly and his leg is funky so even if he could get up with the others, i don't know that he can hold on to a roost.. especially not the hogwire fence my other birds sleep on.. lol.. i moved him into the dog crate with a blanket over it, but i hadn't done the vasaline thing... and i guess it was just that cold for him last night.. poor guy.. last time i went out to check on him a LOT of the red had come back.. i put bag balm on him.. i don't have regular vasaline.... i'm going to try to build him a little house of some sort... gotta go see what i have to use for materials.. lol... potluck chickencoops anyone??

I don't mind the snow here 'cause it is usually pretty light, but when we first moved here we lived in the North Valleys, like you, and the wind was horrible!!! It's not great in town either but it's not quite as bad as up there.

BTW, Happy B-day!!! Your still a pup! I'm more than a decade ahead of you. Enjoy your bday!

Wow, I didn't know it got that cold that far south. The only time I was there it was 114 degrees! Usually the heat doesn't bother me, even at 114, but man it was hard to breathe! I felt the heat burning my windpipe every time I breathed in. Good luck with your new roo. Glad to hear he got some color back!

Couple pictures taken at 12:30 from my front door. Snow started here about 10am.

In the second picture - right of the shed, past the blue tarp (left of the hammock), way in the back is my chicken coop. Visibility is less than 1/4 mile right now.

When I got back from Greens this AM almost all of the chickens were back in the coop - fluffy white they do not like.


Everyone stay warm, drive safe if you must drive and enjoy the snow.

Congrats to budkingston for walking at college graduation (I think) last night, and on the second page of posts in the Nevadans thread. Enjoy the snow up north but be careful tomorrow all. Had a busy weekend processing 47 birds and I just had to go secure some stuff in this wind. Back to bed.
