You got the 9,000th post Seth! Now I have to wait until 10,000!

Hi all,

Sad news. Snowflake passed last night, egg yolk peritonitis. She seemed fine that morning, out scratching with everyone. She was my only blue egg layer. I've had three other chickens that have died and they just went to sleep on my lap. She went into convulsions. It was horrible. I butcher some of my chickens but I always make it quick and the least traumatic as possible. I felt so bad that she suffered. Had I known I would have put her out of her misery.

Kathy

So sorry to hear about your hen Kathy

Congrats Seth but I do think 3 posts in only 2 minutes is definitely cheating.

But since I kind of set the example the time I posted twice in a row (although I waited awhile and the suspense was killing me! lol) I guess I can't point fingers.

Well, here is where the egg cartons came from. I guess the seconds were close-outs; they don't seem to have them anymore!

That's where I got mine from. No worries. They are bound to have some closeouts again with an error of some kind. We'll just keep checking so we can restock before we run out. As I said I have most of a case still. I would just need .25 cents to be repaid and if we are at the same farmer's market then the other .25 cents would be profit.

people would be willing to pay mor e for "special eggs" we could add a extra 25- 50 cents to our colorful eggs greens, blues, and realy dark browns like marans this many or many not work and sell white, normal brown, and lite brown( tinted) in our other packeges. we could also sell our "mini eggs"( bantum eggs these would be a favorite of little kids) at half price of the normal eggs.

I have never charged more for the colored eggs, I just charged the same. The only time I adjust my price is in the summer when the new hens begin to lay and the eggs are a bit smaller, i'll cut the price 50 cents or so. When I sold Duck eggs I charged as much for a 6 pack as I do for a dozen chicken eggs, and they sold great.

I used to buy from EggCartons.com but my IFA started stocking cartons about 6 months ago which are much cheaper. I still buy Labels from there, but not Cartons anymore. I would recommend them though, they have awesome products and great customer service.

The Cartons I bought from IFA. (Note, this one is blank. A fully designed one looks great though!

On the grading of eggs.....and I'll look at my paperwork on Sunday to confirm but I think the direct sale, small egg producer/handler is not a graded egg. I believe you actually have to pay to have them graded. I think you can claim size but but not grade...I think it's all dependent on the volume of production. To allow for the small farmer to sell eggs.

Sounds like NV doesn't regulate direct or farmers market eggs. That's cool.

Sunny, you underestimated the chatty ability of this group! Those 100 posts flew!

Could anyone recommend a florist in North Las Vegas? My husbands aunt is turning 90 and we'd like to send her flowers tomorrow. I found some florists online but would like a recommendation if anyone has one.

Thanks!
