Welcome to the Nevada thread littlekatzz! I tell my husband this too and he blushes deep red everytime! And it is so darn cute! We've been together for 13 years now.

OK I have to tell this story now. Remember the huge cougar print I found last week? Well I told Steve I wanted him to be sure and avoid it cause I wanted him to see it and not smudge it up before I got a pic. Well he forgot and walked all over it. Then it snowed. I mentioned that we would know if the mountain lion was still hanging around cause the snow would show his tracks well. So he went out hunting tracks.

A short time later he came into the house saying, "I found some really huge tracks, you've got to see these to believe it!" So I throw on some boots and a warm coat to go out and see what he found. He did find some very large tracks, from a very large jackrabbit! I tried hard not to laugh I really did! But it was just impossible to not laugh at that! That's my adorable city boy!

Well unfortunately the breeds that excell in heat don't do as well in the cold and vice versa. I do like Orps here cause they handle the cold really well and they will even lay through winter (just not quite as many), most catalogs will give you a run down on what breeds handle well and what they don't. Most breeds do well here with the proper care. A nice, dry coop with a thick roost (so their bodies can cover their feet entirely so they don't freeze) and protection from drafts goes a long way toward keeping your chickens warm in winter and lots of ventilation to keep humidity down in winter and give them fresh air in summer. Doors and windows open during summer, lots of shade, frozen fruits etc will keep them cool in summer.

I do feel sorry for the super fluffy breeds like Brahmas when the temps soar though. What breeds did you have in mind?

havent really decided lol. my neighbor has easter eggers and id love some thing that gave super dark brown eggs....but I change my mind every other day on which breeds I want to order. ive been heavily considering doing a assortment order from a hatchery that sexes picking out my favorites once they feather and giving my neighbor the rest. As she has never seen a hen she could pass up this works well for me :).

im also ordering 15 more call duck ducklings in two weeks hopefully but I think im going to build them a seperate run so they can have a pool without being scared of having to find dead chickens floating in thier water. cackle hatchery has a surprise assortment bargin that im considering because ive read that you can get chicks, ducks, geese, turkeys of unknown numbers all in one shipment.
