Nevadans?

Hi everyone, I'm new to BYC and new to Dayton, NV. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Well to be honest I was REALLY REALLY REALLY wanting to raise some chickens now that we dont live in a city (moved from Vegas) i just read the municipal codes and says you need at least an acre of land to have any "barnyard animals or poultry" Since i'm new to the area i dont know if the laws are strictly enforced or if i can get by with some illegals in my yard. :)

Hi Keliekat! I'm in Dayton also. What neighborhood do you live in? While the 1 acre provision is in the current zoning regulations, there are a lot of older neighborhoods where the zoning has never been updated to the current standard. So you can still legally have them.

ETA: The laws are definitely not strictly enforced. Most people here are pretty laid back so even where there are HOA restrictions you aren't going to have problems unless, as I said, they are a real nuisance. The only person I've ever heard of that has had a problem (and I've lived in Dayton for more than 11 years) was someone with a rooster.

Hi KelieKat! I'm fairly new to the BYC thing, too. People here are SO friendly and helpful. You'll soon be glad you stopped by. We have backyard chickens that have their own "condo" of a coop. Free range chickies would be dead ones here with all the strays around. That said, before we added our one and only rooster to our 16 hens, we went around and spoke face to face with all our neighbors. They were already allies of ours since we share our eggs with them from time to time. Not one of them said they'd mind. Consequently, we haven't had any troubles in that regard. We're about to add at least 7 more pullets and 1 cockriel in the next 4 weeks. It can be done. Hope it works out for you! Nice to meet you.

Someone sprayed the floor my daughter lived in in the dorm at her college. She ended up in the hospital nd now uses a breather. That stuff can really cause problems.
Whoa! Sounds like an allergic reaction. I'm allergic to peppers too and avoid them like the plague.

I'll add you to the member page now. :)

I don't know the name of the community, but I live off six mile canyon rd. we rent so I have to convince the landlord to allow it also. Feel like I have everything against me right now. I'm from Vegas and the laws weren't even as strict there!!
