Welcome to the thread!!!

So sorry about your chick I really hope your other will turn out better you could get really blue egg laying chickens instead of Easter eggers and have you ever looked into showgirls?

Another one of my white silkies (4wks) seems less energetic tonight... At this point I'm expecting the worst :/

If anyone you breed silkies or Easter egger bantams, I may be interested in purchasing and picking them up in the near future.. It even any mareks vaccinated bantam hens.

Oh Dear! That does make Mareks seem more likely. IDK who might have more Silkies or bantams but hopefully someone on here will be able to give you more info. Good thing you had them quarantined!

Hi. I am in Reno. I have been reading the NV threads and you all seem very nice.

Hi Dazell! Welcome to the Nevada thread! I'll add you to the member page as soon as I get on my PC. My phone won't let me get to that page easily. Glad to see you here! :)

Got home and my silkie chick was dead :( extremely strange after how he acted all day yesterday.
Going to keep an eye on the other and hope it's not mareks :( is it normal for chicks to have it when the breeder says hers don't? They've only been in my house since the post office. :(

I'm so very sorry to hear this. I was hoping it was pulling through. You won't know for sure unless you send it for a necropsy.

lol - love the avatar

I don't think there is anywhere within 200 miles that could do a necropsy :/ if the silkies I have dont make it, I'm open for pretty much any bantam. This is so depressing :(

Hi all!

So sad to read about the silkies. I know nearly nothing about Mareks as all my hatchery chicks have been vaccinated. The eggs I've hatched have been NPIP and I haven't ever had a disease problem. I'm curious: Is it something that is just contagious within the immediate flock or is it something that can lurk in coops for years? Once it hits your property can it be eradicated or will all future coop inhabitants be subjected to it? Are some chickens just naturally immune? (Is there a pathologist in the house?)

I've just been lurking as I've been bizzy with hither and yon travels to the Bay Area as we've got Hospice in the mix now for Mom. Parkinsons is really insidious stuff and the end stage is not pretty with the dementia and body wasting. I'll be glad when it's all over and can focus on nicer things. ('nuff said)

To compensate, I've been using the lampwork studio torch time as therapy.... It has kept me sane to just totally disconnect for a bit an focus on something else (that and putting together my dream flock in my head when we finally get to a place that allows chickens).

I am in the NW too! I feel alone being the only person I know who has chickens. So I would love to chat with others that share my LOVE of them. Thanks for welcomingme!:D

The NW is like Reno's center for chickens! (I'm in the old SW, which is now pretty much the NW.) Other than the north valleys, I'd say we have the highest concentration of backyard chickens.

Peep_Show, your work keeps getting better and better!

Candice, I'm sorry your little chick died. I hope it's just an isolated incident.

I agree with Missy. That is just beautiful.
So sorry for everything you are having to go through with your Mom!
