Nevadans?

Thanks, everyone.

I heard Green's was going to have Delawares this Friday, and I'm helping a teacher friend with chicks for her class (I get them afterwards,) so I called them up. No Delawares. They were in last week. But they are going to have barred rocks, buff orps, gold and red sexlinks, speckled sussex, welsummers, ameraucanas, australorps, and marans. I asked what kind of marans, and the guy on the phone didn't even know there were different kinds, but he said "they have white and black." So... cuckoo marans.
The standard black coppers are white and black as chicks also... so could be those too

Missy - I'm so so sorry to hear about Original. I know how you are feeling right now.

I called the State of Nevada to find out exactly what those bugs were that was attacking me and I didn't get an answer. The paper I filled out asked where did the bugs come from, inside a house, building or outside and such. I put house. It asked where in the house, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and such, so I put bedroom since that was where they were attacking me the most. I gave them everything. I finally called Jeff and he said he didn't know what they were since they do not attack plants. I have no clue why they even asked the questions if he couldn't tell what they were if they didn't attack plants. So in the end I'll never know what really was attacking me. All the bugs are gone.

I also learned a lot with Mille eating the chicken droppings. She was able to host roundworms and they attacked me. Luckily they don't live long on me but long enough to feel them crawling on me. I'm treating her and not letting her out with the chickens any longer. My house smelled like vinegar for a while because I did the vinegar, borax and salt treatment on my carpet, furniture and clothing. I also did a body wash with an ivermectin cream treatment. I have no more itchiness on me now and I can even sleep all night again. Just 1 more month for John to be home again and I can hardly wait. This has been the hardest Spring I've ever had.

Tyler - I love your tat. Please don't ever change because of others, always stay true to yourself and you will be happy forever.

Sunny - how's the Farmer's Market going? Which one are you selling at?

Welcome to all the new peeps. I'm glad you all found us.

Thanks, Sheryl and FC.

Sheryl, sorry to hear you're still going through that. Will it ever end???

Aubrey, I'm down for BC marans chicks! I think my cost would have gone up a few bucks if they were BC marans, though.

But Missy, it has ended so to speak. I'm fixing Mille and then we should be done with all of this. The chickens got all of their stuff last month, it just took this long for Mille to get something from it. All is really good now. The house is sooo clean too.

Aubrey ~ I was so sad to hear Gregory Peck had to be put down. What a beautiful, good boy he was!

Missy . . . Sorry about Original. Sounds like she was really special. Hope you can find some Delaware chicks to ease the pain.

Sheryl, I am SO glad you have controlled the bugs!! What a disappointment that they couldn't tell you what they were!

Hoping things continue to improve for you!!

Here are some chick pictures for everyone to enjoy

We said goodbye to Original tonight, the only chicken who had earned a lifetime place on the farm. I didn't find her in the coop at lockdown, which has never happened. I found her huddled in the corner of the yard, and we knew something was wrong. When I held her and examined her, I knew she was suffering and it would be cruelty to make her last until morning. We don't know what was wrong... she wasn't eggbound, her vent looked just fine. This morning, she was running around with all the others. But she was leaking some fluid, like she was urinating, and she kept falling asleep in my arms. Everyone's pretty broken up about her. Sahara is crying while she's cleaning her room, and Mark (our other child) had to go get a baby rabbit and hold it for comfort. I asked Russ to take care of her for me, but to bag up her body so I wouldn't find it when I took out the trash.

I knew I'd be upset whenever the time came for her to go.

I am so sorry you lost Original...she was beautiful. I have been so busy with this mess in our backyard I have not been on for a while. Is Original the one you told me if you had my pattern for the chicken diapers, she would be living in your house? I know how you are feeling, last year we lost our Ally like that. My husband went to lock them up for the night and when he counted them one was missing. We took a flashlight and looked everywhere, found her behind a bush in the flower bed. Never new what was wrong with her, she seemed fine earlier in the day when we last saw her. She was not eggbound or sick either. So I know exactly how you feel and I am so sorry for you and your kids.
