Nevadans?

I agree, laceynoelle is right. I've hatched eggs out of a homemade, still air incubator (made with cardboard boxes and newspaper) and it is a lot of fun! I used a light bulb for heat and an oven/meat thermometer with an alarm on it to let me know when it got too hot (I got so I could lift the lid in my sleep, with my big toe, when that alarm went off). I turned them by hand three times a day and I still had 9 out of 12 hatch!
If I can get them to hatch in that contraption I'm sure you would have good luck with a real 'bator vegaschick. I just have a lot better luck with eggs that I've picked up. Although ke_ben hasn't had any problems with shipped eggs.

So with all this support and good will ... perhaps I will be brave enough to try.

I want to wait until I can get some eggs from ke_ben though. I really want some Delaware, BC Marans, Welsummers, and Olive Eggers ... then if I could just find some nice BLUE eggs along with evonnes EE/Leghorn mixes. I could really get excited about that for sure! BUT, OH THE PRESSURE! I panic a bit just thinking about it ... !!!

i'll have to see how much they're gonna cost me when you're ready and what we'll have room for.. lol...
i have one girl that's laying a beautiful BLUE egg, but she's still EE not Aracauna....
but you could do it in 2 batches if you need to... eggs from ke_ben in one batch so there's room for some wellies for me.. lol.. and then whatever eggs you get from me in round 2... lol...

we'll talk when you're ready... lol... you have my #...

I'm jealous! I want some wellies and some bc marans! I don't have room for any more chicks right now though. I'm already getting 7 ameraucanas from John Blehm in April and I already have 20 chickens in my coop now which is the max for it's size. I've sold my two golden lakenvelders though and I am adding on to the coop so I should be fine with the new babies in April but I want so many more!!!
I need some land! Then I can build lots of coops and put them all on trailers and fill my property with lots and lots of chickens and get hundreds of eggs in all different colors and...

Well, when he was selling pullets in November he told me that he was hoping to have eggs for hatching this spring and that he'd let me know. I REALLY hope that works out cuz I think that he is the best source for quality Dellie, Wellie, and BC Marans stock here without risking the eggs getting scrambled in the mail.

I have seen your beautiful blue egg and was very impressed.

and yes, I do still have your # and I do plan to use it!

but not like, in the middle of the night or to practice breathing heavy or hanging up!

aw c'mon... i could use some excitement in my life... rofl...

i really wanted to get the 2 wellie hens he was selling, but it just wasn't in the budget... i had already commited to getting Mille Fluer Cochins in feb and couldn't spend more money on chickens.. lol..
as it is i need to downsize the flock already... lol...

but i really really want speckled eggs.. and his were laying some really pretty ones....

too bad we can't ask the hens to fill the eggs with only girls....

Lol that 'incubator' is awesome! lol so i wanted to share my emergency incubator story too. I used one of those reptile heat rocks and a small aqarium, and that turned out great too.

When my chickens start going brooy (if they do?) can i buy some fertile eggs off of you folks out here instead of a hatchery? Your chicks all sound awesome!

Vegaschick and evonne you guys are too funny!!!

Laceynoelle, does the reptile heater have a thermostat? I don't think I could ask DH to go through that middle of the night alarm from my oven/meat thermometer again.

I get a kick out of telling that story but he just groans like the memory is actually painful!

It was only 3 weeks and he didn't have to hold the lid of that 'bator up with his big toe 'til it stopped beeping!

HorseFeatherz are you going to have eggs for hatching in a year or so? I'll be ready for more chicks in spring 2011!
