Sunny, I think I am past Hope and leaning on Miracles with these guys. But it never hurts. Big Bird is doing fine though. Just bit lethargic at times compared to the other two. Not even to an obvious degree but I am paying very acute attention. I am looking for a pick me up type stuff for their water just to be sure. The three went through 2 pints of food yesterday so they can't be feeling to bad,

Penturner - I understand the crazy frustration and the draw to punish yourself by trying again! My worst hatch with shipped eggs is 0 out of 10, my best 4 out of 17 (this was under a broody) - my other two were 2/18 - don't know if I should

Horsefeathers, Thankfully I did my homework so it is not completely unexpected. Hope for the best, accept the worst. From what I could tell 50% hatch rate is about as good as you can expect. Serama are even worse than other breeds for both shipping and incubating. And I am beginning to suspect that Reno is a particularly bad place to receive them. I can think of a few things we may have going against us. Altitude, sort of our own little pocket for climate, low humidity, cool nights year round. plus the really bumpy rides planes seem to commonly have flying over the dessert. I don't think 28 eggs is a lot to go on so it is very interesting to know what others are getting in the way of results with shipped eggs. adding your numbers to mine it gives Reno a whopping 9% hatch rate for shipped eggs.

The last time I tried shipped eggs I got a hatch rate of 0 out of 12.

I went right down to a place I knew had fertile eggs and stuck them in the same homemade 'bator (built for science class) with no changes and got 8 out of 12 that hatched. Since I figured out early that the shipped eggs weren't developing at all (by a week it was obvious they were complete duds) it was easy to keep the project going with the new eggs.

12 shipped, 2 broken in carton, 4 blood rings by day 10, 6 in lockdown, and just 3 hatched and healthy. Gonna try another dozen soon and will see how that ends up.

Grrrrr. I ordered 6 eggs from San Diego. They where mailed thursday via USPS and there is no reason that they should not have gone from SD to Sacramento and then to Reno and been getting delivered today. And that is with USPS one thumb up butt so they can be sure to have longest possible delivery time type service. Well they sent that box to New Mexico. What did someone go postal with a lead pipe recently and give every employee at USPS severe brain damage?
Well back to the search for live birds.

LOL! And tell us hou you REALLY feel? Thems is some well-traveled eggs. Heck, with gas prices on the rise again it might be cheaper to stick some stamps on my butt and "see America" via the USPS.

I hope your eggs have fared well and the only thing scrambled is your patience. The eggs that hatch from this batch will undoubtedly be VERY hardy.
