my favorite girl, she's about 18 months

the two black girls - one on the right lays brown, one on the left lays mahogany with specks. They're about 18 months, too. This roo was mean, he's left town, but is the sire of the current roo and my new pullet (no picture)

These are the eggs they lay.

Will get a pix of the newest pullet that has yet to begin laying shortly.

OK, here's a few pics. Couldn't get them all but...

One of the Barney gals, Her sis is hiding but I think I'll name her Gypsy (thanks Holly) so no pic of her needed!

My 2 wheaton Ameraucanas, they are very clannish and shy, and always hang out together.

The 2 Welsummers. Very nervous gals but starting to settle down a bit. Somewhat clannish with each other.

My RIR cross. What can I say? A great layer but not much personality.
41069_rir_cross.jpg

My 2 EEs. Not as friendly as most EEs, often hiding in the bushes. Low in the pecking order.

The one Del I haven't named (her sisters are Cotton and Q-tip). Very friendly, sweet, sweet personality.

Was gonna put a pic of my Cuckoo marans here but I like the name Misty that Holly suggested for her (thanks again Holly).

My black Ameraucana girl. Very shy, very quiet, usually attached at the hip to one of the Black Am Roos.

My BCM girl with too much coloring. She is the most quiet and well behaved of my BCMs and lays a gorgeous dark egg that doesn't have hardly any speckles.

I appreciate any help naming these gals. I know it's hard when you don't know them.

Holly, sounds like you have the beginnings of a great flock! I'll settle for some eggs come spring but I'll still want to pick them up since I have better luck with hatching when they aren't shipped. Do you want some Black Ameraucana eggs? The wheaton and silver Ams are more eye catching but the blacks lay the biggest eggs of the Ams. The wheaton egg color needs work (according to John Blehm, these are from his birds) and I won't have any silvers til 2012 if my plans work out. So blacks are the only eggs I can offer come spring.

Greetings Nevadans!!
I grew up in Lemon Valley outside of Sparks, then in Golden Valley, Sun Valley, Stead, and then in parts of Reno, Tahoe, Gardnerville/Minden and Carson City.
I went to Wooster High school in Reno before moving to Australia, and from there to Redding CA... now in Wisconsin.
But the Biggest Little City.. is still my home town in my heart and soul!!
My first chickens were in Sun Valley, my first capture of a runaway horse was in Lemon Valley..
I think they named the grade school there after a Mr. Mitchell... he was the principal when I went to school there.
I miss the mountains and the smell of sagebrush!!
Just wanted to say Howdy!! LOL
Carol

Great pics everybody, how's it going? Sunny, where does you BCM get the lacing from?

No current culls except Am cockerels. In fact, I don't have any roos in with hens yet. On the Marans front I only have 1 BC hen left with several cuckoo, a white, a blue splash, and a black Penedesenca in the pen too. My exit is just before Mesquite.

Sorry, no more time to chat. Good night.

The RIR cross is a Betsy if I ever saw one.

Gypsy's sister must be Cher.

The wheaton Ameraucanas - so cute - Mary Kate and Ashley.

White Del - Snowball?

The black Ameraucana - my favorite - Diamond - she's a gem!

As for names, i always go for cities usually, but maybe Claire for the delaware? She looks llike a claire to me, even through thats my kittie's name. ^^

Hi Carol! Great to see you here. Yep you are a native of the area for sure and welcome any time! You are more a native than I. We've only been here for 6 years.

ke_ben, I was pretty sure you said you didn't have much but I thought it was worth a try!

Too bad since you are right on the way. Not sure where all the lacing comes from on that one BCM. I looked at the breeder's flock and didn't see any BCMs that looked like her. Almost looks like the same kind of lacing that a welsummer has. Maybe somebody was trying to improve egg color a while back and mixed some welsummer blood in with their birds?

NevadaRon LOVE the name of Diamond for my Black Am gal! Snowball is perfect too since that is what DH suggested too. Thank you!
Betsy is my car and my sister's name is Sher (she wouldn't be flattered, she doesn't get the chicken thing) so that won't work and I'm not much into the celebrity thing (unless it's old classic TV). My next regular RIR will have to be Lucy but maybe this one can be Ethel?

OK, I got 2 names taken care of from Holly and 2 from Nevada Ron, that means I still need names for my welsummers, my Barney, my wheaton gals, my BCM and my EEs.

Oh just saw the other posts! OK vegaschick, you are on a roll! I love the scottish names for the Wheaton Ams! Campbell works for one, Lacey it's also the name of a town I used to live in (in the Bay Area). Maybe Kennedy for the other one. Also love Verbena and Willow for the EEs. Venus is perfect for my one BCM and once I can tell the triplets apart I will use the other names (Opal, Onyx and Pearl). I think I'll call the Barney "Newport" since I was born in Newport Beach and she looks like a So Cal kind of gal. Thanks vegas chick and Lacey!!!
That just leaves the Wellies!

San Jose and Mountain View were the cities I lived in right before we moved to Reno but I don't think they work well for chickens.

Maybe some more nuts? My roos are named Poppy and Sesame. Oops those are seeds not nuts. How about Almond and Cashew for the wellies? Yea I like that. Thanks for the inspiration folks!
