That is weird, I did not get a notice that I had a PM, how strange, but I am very happy that you like the dishes and that you can use them. That was my biggest concern, I wanted them to go to someone that could really use them. I told Mark last night that those dishes have been to 10 Thanksgiving dinners in our family. They are not anything fancy but they are good dishes. I have a green set like the black that I have had for about 15 years and they are still going strong. I bought the green set originally for a big Thanksgiving dinner I was hosting when I lived in NC and it was one of the best purchases I have ever made. Anyway, I am very happy to be able to help out.

Bertha is doing great btw, she has decided to be the guardian for my 7 week old babies. I have been letting them out with the adult chickens the last week for an hour here and there and then the last two days they have been allowed to free range out in the yard with all of the other chickens. Bertha follows them around the yard bullying anyone that gets near them. I am so proud of her I could just cry. The funny part is when I walk out into the yard she actually brings the babies over to me as if she's like, "Ok now you are here they are all your's..." I could not have asked for a better hen. Thank you again for letting me take her. *hug* My Dad came over yesterday to make sure I was not dying from my walking pneumonia and when he saw Bertha he wanted to take her home. He is a big fan of the BO's and he instantly fell in love with her.

Well, its -5 right now in Elko, Windchill -16. Radio was saying it could get down to -10 to -20 tonight and tomorrow. Im suck a softy for my hens, they have a heatlamp in the coop, and my broody one is all alone in a rabbit cage until shes over her broodiness, so he had to go get her another heat lamp since she didnt have anyone to cuddly with. lol. Tomorrow I plan on putting her back in the coop. They have been munching eggs lately, so I think im going to make up some bad tasting eggs and try that to stop them. With the drifting, some areas of our property have a foot of snow and some parts you can see the ground. It kinda makes clearing snow with the quad difficult, but i cleared the driveway today. all the snow from the road drifted into out driveway, so i dont have to worry about clearing the road lol. Usually, im the person up here who clears the snow from the roads on my quad so im just waiting for more snow! lol.

By The Way:: I thought i'd post it one more time, in case anyone wants to drive to elko and get duckies.

I was wondering if anyone is interested, I have a Blue Swedish Drake and 2 Magpie hen ducks for free. The 2 females are laying eggs. I know there are some duck owners in Reno, so if any of you are interested in driving here you can have them for free. The Blue Swedes are in Watch and the magpies are in critical according to the ALBC, So I would prefer to give them to a good home, not a duck-dinner home.

Jeepers - would love to add the ducks to my flock, but don't think DH would be too happy about it as we are trying to cut the feed bill down (still have 5 ducks to process and 4 geese).

For the egg eating - I would recommend two things - 1, increase your protein base you are giving the girls - this can even be meat that you have hunted (or any processing scraps, yes any - my birds get the scraps from others who are processed - I have a Del girl who searches for the "mountain oysters" first out of the scrap bowl

), canned salmon/mackerel or some even use cheap cat food (not something I would use just do to the deaths/recall things) or just purchase breeder/show finisher feed - something above 20%. If you use corn based scratch, I would get rid of it/feed it out and then replace with BOSS (black oil sunflower seeds). The 2nd, I would give them more to do in their area - bones to clean, litter box filled with sand or large planter filled with dirt, a flake of leafy alfalfa, cabbages/apples. You can try re-arranging your coop also, if possible.


All birds will clean up damaged eggs - if an egg freezes, cracks and then warms and leaks, if it cracks upon laying (one egg hitting another), or has a soft shell - this "egg eating" is not a problem. The problem starts when a hen goes into the nest box and with determination breaks the shell to eat the egg. Often, not always but sometimes - the shell will be left with the goodies inside cleaned up.

I finally went to the dotor to get my family from nagging me; I do have two fractured ribs. But they are not the cause of the pneumonia (just a coincidence) and contrarty to what I thought I the beginninng, it is not just one lung that is full, both are what they said "partially full" and on top of all of this I have strep. I told them that I have been through this so many times that I would rather just spend my time home than racking up a medical bill. So I was told to go home and take the next 4 days in bed.

My favourite holiday and I cannot participate very much. But I do have my wonderful DH and boys and let's not forget my chickens, dogs and cats. Chris when to the store and got all of the things we need for Thanksgiving dinner and he and the boys are planning on making it this year. It is very thoughtful and I will let you know how it turns out. It should be very interesting that is for sure.

I have quite a bit to be thankful for this year and rather than list them all out for everyone, I will say that finding this board and meeting you amazing ppl on here has really made my entire year. May your chickens lay lots of eggs and produce all the meat you could ever eat.

Well I am off for a few winks, I have been up since 5 making sure that everything is ready except for just popping it in the oven. You all have a wonderful Thanksgiving and I hope you had a lot to be thankful this year.
