Wow are they cute!!! "Fingers looks like he's from my cuckoo marans girl". Turns out that 3 of the five I kept are boys (including that grey chick).

Oh well, at least they aren't all boys!

Finally got the brooder going and holding temps correctly!!! I will post pics tomorrow. Eggs are cooking right now!
Carol, this means that your friend's chicks should be hatching around the 26th.

I think out of the 7 left here, maybe maybe 3 are pullets - one could be a late blooming cockerel

That makes me so sad about the grey chick - do you have an updated photo - just so I can see him?

Fingers is the chick that did have the "white" spot (or cap as we were calling it) on his beanie head

so I do think he is out of a Marans. He is so friendly................should ANYONE be looking for an Olive egger cockerel - please keep him in mind.

Oh boy! We sure got a lot of boys out of this batch.

Guess I was due, I've had good luck with getting mostly girls for most of my chicks I've gotten.

I was just thinking that too. Last year I hatched alot of pullets - more than cockerels. Starting with my Dec. hatch 2010 - thru Jan of this year, so far my hatch rate seems to be cockerels

Not sure what that says - start eatin' or stop hatchin'

Start eatin' I guess.

I'm not gonna stop hatching when I just got my bator running well.
Does anyone here up north do caponizing? I have a few for them if they want 'em.
