Nevadans?

Yes they have a lot of colors and sizes. Just don't make the same mistake I did and use the little ones. They really went from the bands fitting fine one day then *poof* they were cutting into their legs the next. I swear they sprouted like weeds over night!

Thanks Sunny - something I didn't think of!

I have a friend at my work who may be looking for some more chickens, they'll let me know tomorrow! They even may take the roosters too!

All I have left are the breeding sets. I keep hoping Brian can get a ride for the marans and I've been putting off listing them on CL because of it. I will post these on Monday though since I am out of time now. If your friend wants a trio (1 roo 2 girls) of BCMs, a trio of wheaten ameraucanas (1 cockerel, 2 pullets) or a blue ameraucana pair (1 cockerel & 1 pullet) then let me know.

Ouch! I'm afraid that roo would be dinner over here.

So then there are roosters who can mate gently without pulling at the crests? I wasn't sure if this was normal or I I was just being to soft with my girls! It looks like rape, I feel so bad for them

Yes, there are roos who are gentle. He is young - so he is all hormones and no romance. Some roos never get it - the romance part; but age does help them. Plus having hens older than your cockerel helps to teach him manners - if there are no older roosters to follow by example. Many times the best thing for a young cockerel is to get his butt kicked by an older hen or two.

If you see him being rough - pick him off the girl and stop the mating. I cannot stand a rude cockerel and they seem to know it

(course DH says it is because they are afraid I will chop their head off

) If you see him being rude - stop him. It is your job to teach him what is "ok" and what is not. In my flock, I use Versace to do most of the work for me - he is 3 this year and suffers no fools in the cockerel department.

Sorry you are getting rid of him.

How is the single chick? Still single? I have some chicks, but they are with broodies already, are a couple days old (not sure if they would transfer their bond at this age/time), and very, very tiny - as they are bantam chicks; so I do not think they will work for you. A single raised with mom is not too bad, the "worst" part for me is when mom pushes the chick away, and the chick is alone - no buddy to hang with.

Yeah genny. I think I'm just going to sell him anyway. The new neighbors are not accustomed to his crow yet so he's already sort of driving them mad, lol. It's okay, I'm not that attached to him. He bites me ad leads me on these quite amazing chases at the end of the day when I'm trying to get him in the coop.

Are the babies Cochins? I would freaking love tO have a Cochin in my flock. I dont know if the issue would be babies not bondin with mama, but I know mama would take it in a heartbeat. She has turned out to be a really amazing mama hen. So yeah, just the one chick. He's 3 days old now and totally stinking cute!!!!

Get back to me genny!

I was extremely worried last night about Monique, when I got home early evening she was already heading up to the coop she looked at me and then kept going, she knows I'm opening up the coop so everyone can get out and free range the whole yard. I opened the run and everyone ran out as normal except for her. I opened the door to the coop house itself and she was on the roost, I asked her if she was coming out and she gave me the look of - I'm good and since I believe to each their own so I left her alone, she stayed there and never came out. I'm thinking okay she's depressed then and does not like it here, what should I do now? When I got up this morning everyone was in the run except for Monique so I opened the coop house to see if she's okay and she's sitting in the layer's box and gave me the look of leave me alone, so I shut the door and said to myself perhaps today is the day she's going to lay an egg. I left everyone alone and went back into the house. I waited an hour and went back outside and Monique was in the run, I didn't even look to see if everyone else was in the run, I opened the coop door and started looking in every box, all of a sudden I see Bella in the box Monique was in - I told Bella sorry girl but I need to look in the box so I butted in her business and reached in and there was an egg from Monique, wholly cow! I took the egg and shut the door the whole time telling Bella sorry. I went to the run and told Monique thank you - I know I treat the ladies & girls as if they are human, what can I say other than I'm still doomed!

Anyways, I'm having an extremely happy day today and can't wait to get home to let the ladies & girls out to free range again!
