I think, and Im not trying to ruin the fun..but there ought to be a rule or two. The only thing I can think of is please, please dont make the recipe too complicated. My mom is really busy so Ive been the only one cooking. I can do a good job generally, but one time she left me a recipe for super hard 8hr long ribs, and I utterly destroyed both the kitchen and dinner.
We had to get take out, and even the animals wouldnt touch them. Ug.
My pet rabbit is a black and white Dutch, shes like 7 years old. She's probably the coolest rabbit ever, really sweet and a little bit crazy. When I let her run loose in the house (shes potty trained) in winter she eats all the dog food. I know she's old, but she doesnt act like it.
We've also got some breeder rabbits for meat. I dont remember the breeds, but there are two big white ones, a big brownish red girl, a smaller really soft black (grey ticked) girl who I think is actually a satin, and the stud bunny, some huge black and white guy. Ive actually never tasted rabbit. We got these guys late last year, and seem to be the only people in the world who can get rabbits to breed. We think Josh might be sterile because the lady we got him from was a bit sketchy on the breeding part, he might be inbred. She just had all her rabbits in a big cage. We're holding them in individual cages, but we're thinking about doing a mass enclosure and just making sure we put all the babies in the freezer before they inbreed, and regularly getting new stock. Whew! Sorry for the super long winded answer. Any advise anybody?
Sunny - if you see this before I call you - I will be processing chickens most of the day. Had chicks start hatching yesterday - bantams thou - if it matters at all. ANYWAY - head on over when ya feel like it - I will be a sloppy, icky mess............but the chicks will still be cute!

Wow you guys! It's going to take me 2 days to go through all of the posts on here, man I'm glad this thread is busy.
I've been working and taking care of chickens. Sunday I started de-worming them when I saw Bella was losing weight and didn't look good, now I see why she was being mean when she was. The garlic powder and DE wasn't working fast enough and I didn't want to lose her so I had to do the drastic method and bought the med, made it up and luckily I wasn't too late but let me tell you this way sure is hard on them. I hate tapeworms so much and I finally got a handle on those darn flies too. Anyways, I now have 6 layer's out of the 8 and they are all doing great. I can't wait to have eggs again 1 week from today. I really miss the eggs. My DH is going to go buy some from the store because we don't have a choice right now since no one is near by selling eggs. Anyways, I must get out there again to make sure all is well with them. I'll get back on and will try to catch up on all of this and it sounds like there may be some cooking thingy going on here as well and I want to see what it's all about.

Hi kaichai! It's great to have you here! Welcome to the Nevada thread and to BYC!
What kinds of chickens are you starting out with?
Well, right now we have six hens, two are silkie crosses and there are two easter eggers of some sort, a suppsed black austrolorp, and some sort of small mutt. It's been a crazy learning experience, and I apologize for not getting back earlier.
I am renting a house in an HOA here in Reno, and we're not sure if we're allowed to have hens, but we're going with the Reno laws as we can't find the HOA rules anywhere. Which is why we need quieter hens! I think we may have to give up a few, as they're a bit on the louder (and scarier) side of things, but we'll replace those girls with another breed who are quieter. Any suggestions?
If we get caught, we'll give up all our hens, and set up a new coop in the garage for some quieter girls. Either way, we'll still have chickens! It's just a matter of how.
I also breed a rare breed or heritage fur/meat rabbits. I like being self-sufficient, and I want to get Nigerian Dwarf goats, but I think we're pushing it with our flock of chickens. Next house!
