Just wanted to let you all know that out of the three chicks we hatched last fall. (From the Arauconas we got from sunny) Two are roosters. If anyone wants them let me know. It is best to PM me cause I don't catch all the posts that are written. Nice pretty black birds and they are getting big. I will have to ask my daughter just how old they are though. I need to get them moved because they are living in a cage in my shop. They need to get introduced to the rest of the flock and start living outdoors.

Polish lay a white egg, so one of your Polish are laying. Your Polish are bantum? Although I have to say, I don't know what color the Showgirls lay so if it's white it could be her too, but Polish for sure lay white eggs.

Since cochins lay a brown egg I'd say the mystery is solved.

Good sleuthing guys! Yep my polish is a bantam. Just one though because out of the billion polish chicks ive had only one has been a girl. Although it looks like out of the six other polish chicks I got one more girl- the splash.

Okay, I'll help you get through this. Get out of your chair, turn the monitor off and walk away. Just walk away. Go get a cup of tea, sit down and relax. Just think happy thoughts, happy thoughts. STOP THINKING HAPPY GARDENS. Happy chicken thoughts, happy chicken thoughts. Okay now go back to the computer and ask everyone on BYC what seeds you are going to buy them because you have a coupon?

Lol they know just where to hit you hardest! If it was for Park, I'd say send it my way... I haven't put in their order yet. Lol. Have you ordered all of your stuff already?

Last year, the DAY AFTER I put in a $100 order from Burpee, I got an email coupon for 25% off my order. ticked me off to no end.

If you can't find anyone here, I had great luck on Craigslist finding homes for my silkie roosters. I was actually surprised how positive it was. I got 5 responses, and the first one got them. They're now living happily on a ranch out by Pyramid Lake, and their new mom fell instantly in love with them.

Craigslist helped me with re-homing a rooster too. He's happy on a ranch in Lemon Valley.

Well, Bella is up and down, in and out of the coop today. Playing with the straw in the nest boxes, looking where she might lay an egg. She feels like she has one but I may be wrong. She's been making her little egg laying coos for 2 weeks now so I know she's getting ready. We shall see if she lays one today.

Hi guys,

Happy New Year!! I didn't realize so many of you are gardeners too. I have a deal for you...come out and help me expand my garden and I will grow for you. I'm getting ready to start my seeds in the garage. Last year I had two gardens in different locations. Way to time intensive, so I'm expanding my home garden. I make my own compost and use organic farming practices. Don't have the certification because I don't have the money. All my seeds are heirloom. I am planting my winter/spring veggies this weekend. I know I'm taking a chance but I have lots of seeds.

The weather people say La Nina is going to last through March/April so I'm going to take a chance. I am building some hugles and hope to have at least one hoop house. Let me know. By the way, the neighbor's dogs came back. The judge said if there were any more incidents within the next 12 months they would have to pay the fines, about $2,500.00. It took a month and 5 days from the court date for them to screw up. So I'm drafting a demand letter in preparation to take them to small claimes court. It only took me 4 years to get really mad. Scraps (aka Cap'n Jack) has started jumping at my legs. I thought it was spring testosterone but when I turn around he stands there waiting to be picked up. I think Yang is jealous because he's started doing the rooster 2-step for me when I'm holding Scraps. I need more silkie hens to distract these guys.

I bet there are a few people in your area that would be interested in a deal like that. I have a few friends who come help with my gardens in trade for food, and it's all people who want to learn, or to have the fresh food, but don't have their own gardening space. We're going to be running 3 gardens this year, so help is always great. Gardening is becoming so trendy, that I bet you can find some people locally who would be thrilled to work something out with you. I'd gladly come help, but it's just a little far for me.

I'm glad the courts are in your favor! And as obstinate as they sound, I bet there will be incidents within the next 12 months. It's just too bad it takes losing your birds for something to happen.

And as far as La Nina... I need to get my crystal ball out of the shop. How much moisture will we get, when will our last frost be? Weatherbug is great, but I'd rather just predict the future. My landlady's maintainence guy told her that we need to start manually watering our lawns, though, to make up for the warm weather and lack of moisture. And I'm drawing out plans for a greywater system for my husband to build, so it's not quite so expensive to grow our food next year.

I don't think so. Last year I was part of the Dayton Valley Community Garden and there were only 8 of us. I'm just going to stick with my garden this year. I would have to fence the rabbits out at the community garden and I would just rather spend the money here. Also I can shoot the rabbits here and they are great with fresh veggies. There was also a produce thief and like I said, I can shoot the rabbits.

No, the neighbor's will never learn. They think what's their's is their's and what's mine is their's too. Last time they charged me with ducks at large and said the ducks left their pond and pasture to walk a quarter mile through sagebrush and rocks to aggravate their dogs. The ducks were 3 weeks old. After I won in court I decided to let it go, I was tired of dealing with them but it seems that if I don't cost them something significant they aren't going to notice. Monday was their last warning, I charged them with dogs at large again (and had witnesses) and the next time I'll shoot the dogs. New Year's Resolutions: 1. Stop being nice to jerks; 2. No second chances.
