Good morning, All!
Today all my CA BYCer friends are off to the big poultry show in Stockton. I am green with envy and wish I could've gone...one of these days I'll figure how to coordinate my life.
But I'll get a poultry fix, anyway, because I'm dropping off the chicks to VegasChick (Trayci) at noon today (who tells me she's dusting chickens and other fun chores like that). Hope she likes her new additions! Just preliminary guess (light wing feathers and tail sprouts) I see at least three VERY nice Wheaten Marans pullets in the group...sure wish I could keep 'em, but I'd rather see them go to a good home than have them yanked from me down the road out of spite (stupid neighbor). The Salmon Faverolles are extremely cute with all their puffiness (like feather-legged EE or Ameraucana chicks), but I'm not so keen on those 5th toes.
My dog Gabby (St. Bernard cross) has taken an extraordinary interest in the chicks. She sat for hours on end at the incubator and she bee-lines for the casita where the brooder is when let outside. I pulled up a YouTube on feather sexing and I could hear her run through the house to be at my side.... It was the peeping of the chicks on the video! I don't know if her interests are with good intentions or not and really don't want to risk a chick to find out.... This is the tall and agile dog, afterall, who will deftly snag a sausage out of the fry pan if the lid's not on. Sneaky, sneaky.....
