Nevadans?

Hello, popping in after a busy day. Kids were invited to a birthday party at the discovery museum this morning. then i picked up my parents at the airport. they are here for a week. I peeked in at my girls after dark and two of them were up on the big roost! the rest were still on the small roosts.

speaking of stupid questions people ask, you wouldn't believe how many people ask me if my twins are identical even though they are a boy and a girl!

Missy, that's great that your landlady won't be selling the house out from under you. Too bad you can't buy it now but at least you have the freedom for what you want to do there.

Sunny, just how many chicks will be on their way to you this spring? how exciting!

i cant decid how to get my chickens and i have several plans. 1. get 2 large breed layers as chicks( i will get more than to and take my 2 favorite hens and give away the exses and by show quality bantum pullets later. 2. by all show qualiy bantums this will take the most time
hmm.png
3: get a few of of the bantum breeds i want from a hatcherie and keep my favorite hen from each breed and by 2 show quaily bantums this also deeppens on the coop i get i will either get a craiglist coop or a coop i have been looking at wich holds 6 bantums, 4 regular, and a mix. tell me what you thinks the best options is thanks

I have a pretty good-sized plot in my yard, plus we do a lot of container planting here. A friend is renting a house with an even bigger garden plot, and he's not the manual labor type, so we're going to garden that one and share the food with him. Luckily, it's only about a block from our house. The third is for another friend, whose dentist husband has done a lot of work on my husband. We're growing their garden for them, as part of repayment for all of the work.

This time my ameraucanas are coming from a breeder that puts temperament at the top of the list! These babies should be sooo sweet since her whole flock is mellooooooow.

Hmmmm, I guess I could hatch out a few if I only keep a lav boy in there...

Is your breeder local? I'm finding myself totally envious.

You mean for the Lavs? She's in California. Not too far. Wolftracks is getting me the Olive Eggers. She breeds quite a few breeds too.

I'm going to get more chicks from Wolftracks later too. She is starting a lavender marans project and I am dying to get some of those from her once she can part with a few extras.

I know, I know! I'm getting too carried away and I will have to sell a few of them off eventually (or not) but they are sooo much fun!

Seth I haven't checked out the new BYC yet. Spell check will be super cool though!!! I agree with Aubrey, stay away from the large hatcheries if you want to show. Bantams are a great bird to start with but when they are chicks you never know what will grow up to be show quality. You just have to get a bunch of chicks and hope for a real show stopper in the bunch (or at least one without any DQs). The only way to guarantee a show quality bird is to buy one that is grown and has already been shown and won or placed well and that can be very expensive!!! I hope you find what you are looking for but remember that even if your bird doesn't win you are still getting some valuable experience.

Hi Seth,

Um, we have standard birds, which I'm now thinking of getting a few bantams for my two little Clover-buds (4-H). The birds they're showing now are just too big for them. My son's 4-H project is to breed his Cochins (black).

Thanks for the welcome everybody! And now I'm off to my son's shooting club (shotgun, muzzle loader and Archery)

Morning everyone.

I'm having a very strange day today. I put Martha in jail last night because she attacked Bella near the end of the day. Nothing happened to Bella but Martha really wanted to hurt her even though Bella went submissive and I just could not have that. So, John said since Bella became really nice after she got sick that we should put Martha in the brooder and treat her just like we did with Bella. She's now the resident chicken. She can see the rest of the flock but she can't mingle with them. I'll let everyone know if this works.

Bella jumped out of the enclosure and went into Martha's new house and laid her egg there. That's a new one for her. The coop is full with everyone wanting to lay eggs this morning but they only lay in box #4 and Bella laid her egg in box #2 Friday so there should'nt be an issue but I guess she figured there would be an issue so she went ahead and jumped over. She's back in the enclosure now and everyone is fine. The flock is very quietly walking around looking for stuff to peck at. Of course I'm hearing all of this from John since I'm at work already.

ETA: Because I can't spell.
