Last night I had typed a nice long post in response to people who write, etc. and my cat moved and erased it again. that's 2 days in a row he's done that. I guess I'll have to move him off my lap when I'm responding on byc at night. anyway, missy I think you should try to get some of your work published. I have a friend in minnesota who has written a young adult novel and is working to get it published. My writing the last 15 years has been academic. I have been published in academic journals. I don't write a lot of journal articles because I'm not tenure track but I do write some occasionally. Most of the time I'm writing reports and at home I journal for my kids' scrapbooks. In college I wrote poetry and read at poetry readings in Chicago. Some day maybe I'll get into creative writing again but I have too many things on my list these days.

I had planned to order a few sebastapol geese gosling and call ducks ducklings through the mail with in the next couple of weeks. However If there is a local breeder in the reno area I would much more prefer to buy here. Im just looking for pet quality..something I can go into my backyard and feed that makes me smile. If not I will be placing a order with johnsons waterfowl and if anybody is intrested in sharing a order pls let me know. They carry runner ducks, crested ducks, cuyaga ducks, and few other breeds I cant recall just yet, plus sebastapols, pomerianian, buff and I believe arfican. They are very affordable as im looking to pay between $5-8 per call duckling and $35 for my sebastapol. And im hoping a shared order might help with body heat. Thank you

My furnace went out again at 5am this morning. We have an old oil-burning furnace, which has broken down 3 times since November. That's probably why my landlady asked me if I wanted to buy the house! It's bad enough we pay $350 a month for heating in the winter... she's probably outpaid our heating bill, just in repairs. It's the biggest downside to this property. Furnace guy can't come out until this afternoon... so it's a space heater, lots of manual labor, and maybe a batch or two of cookies... I may have to cancel a client if it gets too cold.

Hope your furnace gets fixed fast! That happened to us when we rented an old house in Sparks. Boy, did it get cold!

Hey guys, sorry I havent been around lately. Its been an incredibly stressfull and sad week around here. Saturday my best friends house burnt down while she wasnt home and both of her dogs died in the fire. She lost everything and her landlord is trying to blame it on smoking rather than the real reason the fire was most likely caused which was the electrical issues she had been having. We had t get her moved into our place real fast and all she has is the bag of clothes she had taken with her while she was out that night. We were able to look at the house and it was dreadful. The smell was the most overwhelming thing i have ever smelled and even now sitting here i can smell it from upstairs even though her clothes are downstairs. poor poor girl. This all happened on her birthday.
We are both recovering alcoholics. The other night she had a complete relapse and I spent my entire night trying to clean up and fix the things that happened. This is all in between my working ten hour shifts. Im really tired and for the first time in my life i am overwhelmed with sympathy. I cant even believe what this poor girl is going through. I keep telling her that im glad she wasnt home and im glad shes okay but all she tells me is that if she was home she could have gotten her babies out.
Marks band has been trying to record an album in the basement so they can try to get on a label which means there are 8 adults in the house at any given time. I love the company but im so sleepy and its been really hard keeping up with the cleaning.

All that aside Ive learned a lot lately. Im so hapy for what I have and i have given elvis 1000000 extra hugs in the past few days. I will definitely be putting in a doggy door for him and the cats in case of an emergency when we arent home.

All my new chickens are doing wonderfully. That marans that I got is such a lover. She really likes people and loves being held. Im really glad too because ive been really into chicken cuddles lately, lol, and for that the silkies has come in handy.

well, big hugs to everyone today. were all moving forward around here and keeping positive attitudes. I started weight watchers again and my body is feeling so good. Im really glad were having such great weather too, i think ill walk to work today

Aubrey, your poor friend! What a horrible experience! When she finds a new place, will she need new furniture and stuff? I usually have friends cycling stuff around, if she's fine with used stuff.

I bet you she will TOTALLY appreciate that. She loves recycled stuff and all of her furniture was "old people chic" from the thrift store! (no offense to anyone! its just what i called it, it was so cute, her little 70's style couch with the orange flower print and doilies, lol!) I will let her know, thank you

Ok, I put out the word. A few specs: just her, or a roommate/boyfriend/kids? Would she like recycled clothing, and what size? Does she cook a lot?

There is a free couch sitting in the alley between Lander and Humboldt, I believe it is. The alley across from the 7-11, running in between the apt building and the brick house. The couch is in a driveway at the end house right before Pueblo. It used to have a FREE sign on it, but yesterday it looked like the sign had blown off. It was nice a few days ago, but probably got wet in this last snow.

Its just her and her boyfriend. I think we are going to be able to wash her clothes but they really need a new matress. We pulled it from the house and it STINKS. all of her living room furniture burned but her kitchen was on the opposite end of the house and we might be able to get her dishes when she is allowed to go back. (i dont know how that works). Basically it was the living room the went up, her bedroom door was shut and most of that stuff survived the smoke damage, it just smells bad. She had a spare room that had the door open and that stuff is gone, a dining room off of the living room that she was able to get some pictures spared from, then the kitchen was off of the dining room and its mostly smoke damage. we didnt look in the cupboards but im HOPING her dishes and stuff are only smelly and were able to not get too damaged. Although, she has been anting to move to new york for over a year now and as awful as it sounds this might be her last kick in the pants to start fulfilling her dreams. It seems so sad that the dogs died even though they were able to keep the fire from spreading past the livivng room/ dining room. The smoke must have been so awful.

so sorry to hear about your friend and the tough time you've been having. I hope things improve. it's so sad to lose the animals and of course all her earthly possessions, too.
