Nevadans?

Oh, and I made lamb tagine today with our local lamb. It was really good. My son loved it. My daughter didn't want to try since she thinks lambs are too cute to eat. So I said it was donkey and she tried it.

She didn't want more but at least she tried it. I don't force feed my kids but they do need to try new foods. Missy, do you have any recipes that would be good to use for the center loin?

The first one that comes to mind is mrouzia, which is a tagine. I have cookbooks on Greek or Indian food, if you want any of those flavors. Otherwise, I found this one on the internet... I don't know how much truffle honey is or where to get it, but maybe you can substitute with regular honey?

There's this one too... It looks like something you'd find in a Victorian Inn.

So I told you I suspected that my first hatch of Petey's showgirls might be pure silkie because I had all the hens with my white Silkie roo before making a Show Girl pen......Well TahDah the very first chick to hatch lastnight was a FULL SHOWGIRL!!!! And with a bow tie too!!!

Skin Color is good too!! She is not completely fluffed out yet but appears to be white w/black or maybe white/silver down, So hard to tell at this stage... I have Petey in with a black hen and a white pullet.... I am so excited for this project to finally....HATCH!!!

I have 2-3 more S.G. eggs in there so fingers crossed

Here is Heather with the crested mallard she named Tufty

They watch TV together!!! We always have babies in the living room with us this time of year, my son likes building obstacle coursed for them to travel over...they are more agile than you think!!

and last but not least I have to share my favorite treasure from free chick day at Greens Feed:

We scored some Naked Necks!!! Highlight of my day!!

The kids have decided to raise some brown egg layers to sell for a little extra money so if you know of anyone looking for Barred rocks, buff Orpingtons, Cochins or buff Brahmas tell them to contact me, we havecreated a waiting list. And I will let everyone know when our upcoming NNPFA Chicken Swap/Sale will be so hopefully we can see everyone!!!

Oh Julie, they are so cute! All of them. I love your call ducks they are the best. Let us know when the swap is and I'll come by and say hi again like last year. You are making me want to carry my ducklings around where ever I go. I can't wait to give them their first swim.

Reading all the posts about gardening, I have been soooo busy with the chicks, the coop, and painting my kitchen I have not found time to even think about starting my seeds. YIKES. I was laughing about there being no snow on Peavine, thinking we could plant! HA HA HA, snow today! Reno weather sure is crazy this winter!
Thank you for the inspiration to start thinking about what we want to grow this year.

Aubrey, I totally forgot about you dropping it off until I was totally stressed a few minutes ago and stomped outside while taking out the garbage, and almost stepped on a bag of squishy brown stuff!

I've been turning the beds today, so it's just in time. Thanks! I'm in the market for more, if you don't mind saving again.

Seth, I just bought a huge bale of pine shavings, a lot more than I need. And it was less than $6. If you want to do pine, you can have a bunch when you pick up your babies.

We've had enough excitement for tonight. Last night, Sahara fed Mao Tse Tung for Russ because I'm just not into snakes. Basically, you put him in a separate bin with his mouse, put the top on, and wait until he's done. Today, she looked in the feeding bin and said, "Mom, where's Mao?" She had to call up Russ and tell him that she had lost his snake... which is a baby snake, about half the width of a pinky finger, so he could be anywhere. We found him, though. So lucky we did! He didn't go more than 5 feet from where he had crawled out, but we were looking under furniture, between books on the shelf... so she got to call him again and tell him that we found Mao. Next time we feed him, the feeding bin is getting duct taped!
Snakes really creep me out. You are a brave woman. Glad you found him!
Thanks for the lamb recipe suggestions. I will have to check them out.

Does anyone know of a place to eat in Truckee/Nevada City/Grass Valley that might have gluten-free options and isn't horribly expensive? The only one of those that I've been to (through) is Truckee.
