Oh my gosh that would be so amazing!!! I was hoping we could find a couple folks to help out! You guys are so wonderful for offering!!!!! Thank you!!!![]()
We'll do BBQ and make some more homemade ice cream! I made some the other day with berries and honey only. Not even a tiny bit of sugar and it was pretty good but I think I'll blend most of the berries next time. Huge pieces of really frozen fruit can be hard on the teeth and the blackberries were huge!![]()
Does anyone on this thread make their own cheese? I think that's what I want to learn next. I already do yogurt, and my sister does paneer.
I've never made cheese but it's on my list of want tos. I told Steve that if we ever retire to Ecuador that we will have to learn how to make cheese so we can open up a shop there (they really need a few good cheese shops there). I found a bunch of great recipes on the web. They say to start with yogurt (I've done that and so have you) then move on to cream cheese (several recipes on the web and it looks super easy!). The other recipes look more involved but I figured I would get a friend interested and we could learn together. I wish I knew more folks that lived up here! Not very practical to run into town to make cheese.
Stone House Ranch has fresh milk for sale. I talked to the folks there and they said to come by and take a look. Said if I want to bring a quart jar they will give me a free sample. It is not cheap though! $6 a gallon is the best price and they weren't clear on if that covered the "cow share" that is required by NV law. They said to come by anytime around midday so we wouldn't be interrupting milking.
Steve was set against spending that much but I explained that this included a hefty amount of cream and now that we have the ice cream maker he is seeing how expensive buying cream is. He still wants to try it first before committing.
Sunny CONGRATS! I know moving sucks but i could tell you werent truly happy with that house anyways. But geeze you are the moving queen now
You're right. I hated this house! Loved the property but hated the house. It's such a cracker box! So a lot of work to move but we will be much happier once it's all done.![]()
can't believe you're moving again, Sunny! That is a lot of work with all the chicken coops, etc.
well, I have a busy day ahead at work. Lots of issues on a grant proposal. I was blissfully in denial all weekend but now it's monday.![]()
Yes the coops are the biggest concern. What a huge deal to move them! We will have to borrow Steve's buddy's flat bed trailer and use 2x4s (or whatever else we have laying around) to raise them up over the wheel wells. We did it before when we bought the last shed. Luckily we will be getting rid of a few birds on the 20th, at the swap, so we will be traveling lighter by then. I guess the birds will have to go in cages til the coops are moved over. Now I really wish I'd waited to get so many!!!
Good luck on your grant proposal!!! I've had to do a little grant writing so I know how specific and tedious it is! I didn't do it enough to get really good at it but enough to know it is hard work!!!
