Nevadans?

It's looking like I have 3 lav pullets. I was suspicious of one but I'm not seeing further signs so I'm thinking we might be safe. the chicks from you and Kirstie are soooo friendly. I had 7 of them fly up on my lap and shoulders all at once the other day.
You, order too much? I couldn't believe that!

Lol at least I have plenty to share or trade! I've had a few people so far offer to buy any extra potatoes I have in the fall. I told them not to worry... unless we have a Nevada potato famine, I'll have extras. A few months ago, a friend offered to buy any extra chickens I had. Well... that's no longer an option, but the freezer will like them.

Speaking of chickens, can I have you bottle up some of your water, so I can feed it to my chicks? There's something in my water that turns all my favorite chicks into cockerels. It's not the soil, because Burger never went outside. Maybe if I give some of your water to my cream brabanter, it will be a guaranteed pullet. I keep watching her face for any redness, since the feathers usually don't give any indication of gender until later. Or maybe there was some voodoo curse put on this property by the enemy of a previous chicken owner. May all the favored chickens of this property turn into cockerels!

I'm glad I only need to plant the outer cloves of this garlic. We get to try Georgian Fire this year, instead of next. Plus, I've heard spring garlic is wonderful to cook with.

We probably won't be going to the swap. Sunday is our wedding anniversary, so I'll probably be doing something with my husband that's not related to chickens or gardens. 6 years ago he took on me and my kids, knowing full well what he was getting into, so I can give him a day that doesn't rotate around my semi-fanatical hobbies.

I'm so glad your enjoying your chicks

I can tell by your rooster's comb that he is out of my black laced red Foley hen. She produces the nicest babies for me of all my hens! He is going to be one gorgeous rooster!!

Kirstie's pullet has great type! They will produce some super chicks for you!! Your lavender girls color is still VERY nice!! She does not have ticking. It is normal for the lavenders to have a darker head and tail. Ticking is small, dark grey flecks in their feathers. Her feather quality looks good too! Messy, curly looking feathers are a problem in the lavenders, especially the roosters. I have 7 eggs incubating from my BLRWs right now (all of them are out of my two best, black laced red Foley hens x the son of your rooster's father) that are due to hatch May 29th. 2 of the BLRW eggs are in the incubator with my 10 shipped BLRW eggs (a new line~ 8 look to be growing) and 5 of them are under a broody (one of the eggs mother) out of the son of the rooster that is the father to your boy. I am anxious to see what he produces.

Here is a picture of a full sister to your boy. She is a real sweetie and my favorite pullet hatched last year.

I promised pictures that I've taken in the last few weeks. Sorry it took me this long to post them. I took some more of the teenagers that are in with the older chickens today since I noticed the ones I took a few weeks ago didn't really come out well.

Here's Wynnie still sitting on her duck eggs and taking care of the 2 ducklings she hatched and one from the incubator. Missy, you have the ducklings that Wynnie hatched herself.

Here's Lucky Leroy taking care of his girls.

Here's Amanda. She's really light on her body but her tail and head are more darker. I think it's what Candy says
is ticking?

Here's Harmony and Mo enjoying the run together. They will be 8 weeks old on Thursday and Friday.
They are bigger than their parents already.

Amanda and Lucky Leroy saying Hi to Harmony and Mo.

Here's my garlic. It's almost 3' tall now. It looks like I'll have some great garlic this fall.

You can't really tell here but this strawberry patch is full of strawberries right now. John's making a bird
cover so I will be able to make jam this year. I haven't been able to make jam in over 15 years because
the birds always ate the strawberries but no more.

Strawberry protector being built right now. It will be over the strawberries in about 2 days. The rest of
the garden will all be in later today and tomorrow. This is going to be really huge with the corn, squash
and beans we are going to put in here. The squash is all ready for the garden and the beans and corn
seeds will be planted with them. It's the 3 sister method that was posted on here a while back.

Wow

That is GREAT that you got so many pullets!
bunch of cuties! I'm sure my daughter would love show girls. she liked missy's naked neck chick.
thanks! I didn't get photos of everyone but those are representatives. It's looking like I have 3 lav pullets. I have 11 pullets, I think, out of 20 and I think the one that died early on was a pullet as well, so that's not too shabby a ratio (your six are included in that total and it looks like I got 5 out of 6 pullets from you). I do have pretty good luck. My hatchery order from september was 100% pullet. I ordered sexed pullets but they say to expect about 90% accuracy.

Your BLRW hen is gorgeous!

Yeah, it looks like Missy can only pick out boys for some reason, darn it. She got them all except for Lucky Leroy. Candy, I'm going to hatch babies next year from Lucky Leroy and Lacey. Let's see what we get. I'm so hoping to get a girl like his sister. Wow, that would be great. I know some people who would want those too.

We just had a really nice huge thunderstorm come through here. Just a little bit of hail but it didn't hurt anything. Boy were the teenager's scared. Amanda came running out of the chicken run and into the fence just a peeping. I got her before she could hurt herself. Dried her up and brought her in. She just loved sitting with Nonni while this storm was hitting it's hardest. The poor other teenager's went way up into the feed corner where I couldn't get to them to tell them they were alright.

What do you mean I'm spoiled? What's spoiled anyways? So says Amanda.

The ones I couldn't get to. They stayed here until the storm subsided. The poor things.

Amanda's feathering is perfect all over. There isn't any wrong shaped feathers any where on her, so it sounds like a good thing then. See Elizabeth you were right, it's not ticking. lol

Quote: Cool! How much do the cages rent for?
Oh my gosh....I heard all this racket up in the coops so, thinking I may have some chicks hatched and the moms are fighting I run...well, with my back that means and stepped quickly.....anyway, to my surprise the racket was coming from the Polish pen! I have 4 roosters and four nesting boxes.....there was one ROO in each box and all the hens were on top of the boxes and everyone was singing the egg song! Wish I would have gotten a picture! I was SO surprised to see the boys just sitting in each nest as happy as can be!

I needed this laugh.....my 11 year old Cocker Spaniel is very ill and the surgery to save her would be about $1,000 that I don't have.....I'm praying the antibiotics cure her but I'm worried sick and have been

for the last couple of days, praying I'm making the right decision and wondering if I should opt for the surgery........

Boy, what a extreme post huh?
Oh Pam! I am so sorry! We lost our Tasha a little over a year ago from kidney failure. It was so tough to watch her deteriorate. We decided not to intervene and let her go naturally but it was a hard decision to make.

Happy anniversary!!! Steve and I celebrated ours a week ago. We had a wonderful quiet day all to ourselves.

I am bringing the WCB polish cockerels and about 4 BCM cockerels and a couple of ameraucana cockerels and I may even bring a couple of pullets to sell (if I can part with any of them). I really need to lighten the load around here before the move! Don't forget you have a polish pullet waiting here for you too. They are about half grown now.
