FINALLY. now that the extra boys are gone (and i miss them terribly!) and the last crumb of starter has been eaten...I have FINALLY integrated Gregory Peck, Brthday Present, Cupcake (the other polish that i bought from Sunny, hehehe, ((of whom also needed a birthday related name)), Pat (the androginous showgirl whos gender I just cannot seem to pinpoint), and the PERFECT showgirl whom I havent named yet but Im sure it will come, ... , . what was i talking about?...

oh yeah, so i finally integrated them with the rest of the flock! tonight i put them in the coop free from their pet carriers. I did have to give haircuts to birthday present and cupcake though, sorry Sunny. I wanted to make sure they would have perfect visability in the morning and this week and they will surely be shown their place by some of the lower pecking order chickens. While I was at it i gave Dolly Parton, our beautiful silkie a haircut also since she literally had 0 visability poor thing. shes SO fluffy. anyhow you all oughtaa see when you give birds like that haircuts for the first time. The WCBs and Dolly were walking around really taking in their surroundings, it was cute, lol. Anywhooo

Sunny have the polish perched yet? Because if they have then they sure are clumsy, hahahaha. theyll get it im certain. they were perched on one of the lower rungs when i finally got the gull to leave th coop. Gregory Pck had perched too and then got kicked off by the big girls. He was screaming for his showgirls by the time i left who were sleeping already in one of the nest boxes. AHHH, all is well in the chicken world.

but i ramble...

Poor little girl! Steve feels terrible for getting her foot caught. Yea a couple days away from the bigger chickens and she should be fine. Let me know if she doesn't heal fast enough. We'll make it right!
She was our 7th generation from a bloodline started by my mother-in-law. She never could hold a pregnancy so I wasn't able to keep the line going from dogs that were our childhood dogs. She was a beauty and a sweet girl.

ok well brithday presents sister will spend some time in the clinic. should i give her vists from the little white showgirl i picked up so she doesn't get lonly??? they do like eachother and are the resident pacifists
Awwww! That is such a great idea. You are such a good chicken papa!

I know how you feel all my roos are gone everyone is integreted(or will be shortly) and the funniest part is that the chicken that is probly the lowest on the current pecking order is the smartest. She is the only one to use the perch and the only one to fly up to the balcony where the nestboxes go(the other showgirl follows) she is going to teach the others how to be chickens

Yeah, almost two weeks ago we did the happy dance as the two littlest ducklings moved into their dog kennel, in my daughter's room. A week earlier, the littlest chicks had gone into the lower-level kennel as the 3 oldest ducks lived in the upper one. (I have to huge kennels, stacked one on top of the other.) With the big ducks in the coop, the little ducks moved out of the bathroom. We finally had the bathroom to ourselves, and had all babies isolated in one area, with no heat lamps.
But today, while I showed the babies to a friend's 5-year-old son, he asked, "Why does your house smell so disgusting?"

I had cleaned the brooders just yesterday! I'll be glad when they're ALL outside, and the inside is just humans and dogs. Much more control over poop that way.

OMG MISSY! ahaha! I imagine thats what a small child would think if they came into my place, but in that instance i would just point to the dogs behind.
It really is a huge relief and a ton less work when everyone is finally living together in one place. just filling ONE feed bucket, one less waterer, no more lugging crates in and out, ahhhhh

good for you, aubrey, to resist buying at the swap but you really are doing pretty well acquiring more chickens outside of swaps lately
wink.png
we'll need some updated photos of your flock, i think.

Seth, hope your new polish heals up quickly. you owe us some photos of your coop and your new chickens!

Missy, Happy Anniversary! Hope it was a special day.

I didn't make it to the swap. Too much going on and I really don't need any more poultry. We tried to track down some eclipse glasses at the planetarium before church but they had sold out Saturday (despite what the news said). Then we swung by Learning Express but they were out too. After church we stopped at Rancho San Rafael because there was an event there and one of the booths was giving away eclipse glasses to the first 1000 kids. Well, they were out by the time we got there. We went back to the planetarium, just in case there was a miracle, I guess, and they were still out but there were scalpers in the parking lot

so we got 2 pairs for $5 each. They would have been $2 each at the other places but I guess procrastinators can't be choosy. So, we did get to view the eclipse and it was cool, although there was a giant cloud that obscured the view sometimes.

I had a fairly productive weekend. Got the walls of the playhouse framed and put up on the platform. I built two 8'x2' raised beds in the backyard along our fence and planted one of them with my tomatoes, pepper, and tomatillos.

I need to take some new photos of my youngest chicks this week. I think my luck has run out a bit. Of the sexed "pullets", it's looking like I scored 3 cockerels and who knows what I have lurking amongst the 5 silkies. Surely a few roos in that bunch but I can't tell yet.

Leave it to a 5 year old to say whatever they're thinking! You'll be back to normal soon. Our garage is still a little stinky. I have a little more clean up to do with the empty brooders.

Moved my meaties out of the garage today to the grow out pen. They looked pretty shell shocked but I did see some of them eating and some drinking. I don't know if they will try to go into the coop tonight or not.

Did anyone check out the eclipse? I used one of my welding helmets - it was pretty interesting! I also tried to use the digital view port on my camera but it only came out looking like a normal sun, except.. The reflections all looked perfect in the pictures! Here's one from the annular phase:

This one is from the crescent phase:
