Nevadans?

Sorry for the late reminder but for those of you who are interested, NNPFA is having another Chicken Swap tomorrow (Saturday June 9th)9-2pm @ Feed World this month and then mark your calendars for July 15th at 1-Stop Ranch and Feed.  We will be holding our raffle on July 15th too!  We are getting Gift Certificates from local feed stores and hope to get some other donations as well.  Raffle tickets are $5 each and 100% of proceeds go to pay for the Livestock Event Center rental for our show(the bldg costs us nearly $2000 to rent!).

Thanks Aubrey for the referral on the Showgirls, The lady really wants to get some but can't make the drive from Idaho so if anyone is headed to Idaho and can deliver 4 showgirls let me know thanks!!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Some young Calls hatched by me. Blue Pied, Gray, White, and Blue Fawn....I really love my calls this is the 2nd year we have hatched them, such big attitudes in little bodies!!

Heathers Sebastapol goslings, hatched Easter weekend, they are very tame and the male, Elvis,  will sit in her lap, the female Marilyn stays just out of reach but will nibble on your clothes when you are not looking :)

Before I forget Julie, do you have any nice show quility Dutch cocks for sale? My silkie passed cock passed away from age the other morning.

Sheryl, I hope Nonni gets better soon! Send her my love, please.

Julie, I love the color variations on the call ducks! And the goslings are so beautiful! I just want to cuddle those fluffy feathers.

I'm so sorry Julie, I'm without a car tomorrow but I need to stay home anyways.

Missy, I sure will. I think we are okay though since the doctor didn't call back. Next is lab work to check for any heart failure but the doctor thinks we are good to go this is just to make sure. She insisted on doing the dishes tonight and she helped me make 2 strawberry rhubarb pies too. I can't keep her down.

We got the bed from a company called Olejo. It is the Serta icomfort bed. We got the mattress only since it will be a cheaper to just get any box spring to fit it. It has that cool gel technology and gets great reviews but it is such a new mattress that we have no idea how it will hold up over time. *sigh* That is the same story as with the Sleep Number bed that we dislike so much. Hopefully this one will have a happier ending. They made us a great deal so we are pretty excited about it!

We also have a Serta icomfort. We got it about a year ago. My husband does some work in the furniture industry so it was a great price and our Sleep number had been having issues with the pump (and making his back hurt!). We did a lot of research and the great thing is that it has a 25 year warranty so if it gets saggy or whatever there might be some recourse. It took a few weeks to get used to, but we still really like it. Even got a lower model for the kid/guest room. Hope it works for you.
Having issues with "Meg" again. I'm not sure what's the matter with her, but we've done and are doing just about everything we can for her. We resigned ourselves that she might not make it. One other has swollen sinuses. Trying some antibiotics for her. I'm glad that they aren't yet laying otherwise I would be irritated about tossing the eggs. I'll be thrilled when they are all healthy again...it's hard work caring for them when they are sick (or at least it has been for Meg). It'd probably be more humane if we euthanized her, but I'm no quitter. Besides, neither of us could bear to do it and we aren't allowed to kill animals on the premisis. Gotta love HOAs.

Sorry to hear about Meg again and now another one. It sounds like you have something contagious there?

John and I sleep on a waterbed. We have since we've been married. I have a hard time sleeping any where else.

Sure is quiet around here! All I can think about is everyone eating that banana ice cream with chocolate and nuts on top!!! Guess y'all are too tired and full of good nosh after helping Sunny move, to post how it all went.

Hope it was smoothly. So nice of those of you who helped.

Hi, I'm back :). I want a blue pied call! Sooo cute.
I have a question, we have BCM chicks and mom won't let us near them. The have their feathers, can I take mom and dad away so we can hold them and get them friendly? I have another hen seeting on eggs in the same coop. So it would be her and the chicks. Not shore what the chicks would do, go to her as a new mom? Would she hurt them?

Hi Lisa! Haven't seen you on here in ages! I hope everything is going well. Unfortunately, I can't help you with your issue. Hatching (natural or otherwise) is not something I've gotten into yet.

Wow, still pretty quiet here! I guess everyone is too pooped from the move.

The BBQ for my nephew was a huge success! I barbecued a pork shoulder, marinated in apple juice, salt and brown sugar, plus my secret ingredient,

which I also use in the rub. Then I slow smoked it for 4 hours. I also grilled some corn on the cob, green onions and a red bell pepper for a grilled corn salad. Yum! My nephew won't be back until August but then he will be here for a while.

Well, it was a long day at Sunny's for the move. I didn't do much lifting and carrying since I was busy wrangling my kids all day but my husband did. Missy and Russ, and Aubrey and Mark came as well. Sunny and Steve still have lots to do but they have all week. Their new place is a really lovely home. Sunny's lasagna was excellent as was the homemade ice cream.

We were gone all day but found 12 eggs in the nest boxes with all intact and no pokes or cracks. Then I checked in the run in case there were any there. I heard some noise and looked up and saw 5 of the little chicks up on top of the welded wire. It's hard to explain how it's set up but they were still in the enclosed run but there is an overlap of wire on the top. The brahma had wedged herself in with her neck through the 2x3 hole and I think she really couldn't have gotten out by herself. So I ended up getting the bolt cutter and cutting the wire around her to release her. I brought her inside the house to check her out and she is fine. the others were fine as they were just roosting on the flat part.

Then this morning I found one of the jaers inside the main part of the coop waiting by the door. her comb was pecked and bloody but she was ok, just scared. So i have to block off the top of the divider in the run. that's how she got to the other side.

adventures in chicken raising....always something new going on!
