Thanks you guys, youre all the best. She was my friendliest of the two olive eggers, and was developing a very funny personality. I guess the one okay thing is that i candled my broodies eggs today and there was actually one small egg veining. I do not know who lays this egg. It is light cream colored with speckles. one of the cochins maybe? either way it took me by surprise and I gave Mr. Pants a pat on the back. I cant tell with the green eggs though. It doesnt look like there is veining but it sort of looks like there are egg sacks, so who knows. I do see him on my ee often but she is so big that i almost feel like there is no way he is making it in there. LOL. the point of this story is that if a chick hatches i will name it poppy jr after my poor OE.

After reading your post, I went out and candled my marans eggs. I might have 3 growing. Maybe. I have no idea what I'm even looking at. I was out in the dark coop with my small LED flashlight. 3 were clear, with the light shining through with no problem. 1 was so dark that I couldn't tell, but there was no light shining through except the very edge. The other two looked like there was something in there, and one had a very large air pocket on the dull end. Do you think this means anything? If any are going to hatch, it'll be on the 10th or 11th. I'm thinking of getting some more fertile eggs, then taking the 3 dark ones and putting them under Sour the australorp, since I haven't seen her off the nest at ALL! I have no idea when she eats. Tom Ka Gai is pretty dedicated too. She pecked me as I was putting the eggs back. So maybe she'll get a new batch of fertile eggs.

If any hatch, I'll put them in the mini-coop. Would there be any problem with 2 mommies in a small enclosed space?

id say the ones you cant see through may absolutely have something going on in them! weee!!!

I'm a little concerned because they were first put under Loco, who isn't a dedicated mama. She'd get up to eat, then switch nests, going to one that had no eggs.

Then let the other hens bump her off the nest so they could lay. I have hens that lay beside Sour, but they have to share. She won't move for them at all.

Plus, since they're BCM eggs, they're a little shady to begin with.

Hi I have some blues and partridge blue(white roo over black hen)....sorry no splash. I hatched whites but they are spoken for. Next year I may not have these colors next year because I sold my black hens. My white cock bird is from Amber Waves Silkies, pullets are from a CA unk breeder. I may keep a blue pullet from this years hatch..... I am on Petersons Poultry on Facebook. I will be at the NNPFA Poultry SWAP July 15th @ 1-Stop Ranch & feed
..

the guy that was supposed to take the sussex roo texted and said he couldn't make it today. so the lady who actually wanted both will be getting them tomorrow if all goes as planned.

Lost a bird today. Not just any bird either, one of my two olive eggers. The frustrating part is that she died trying to lay her first egg. Poor dear. It wasnt even hot today, and this is the first time i have seen her in a nest box. She looked completely normal and healthy aside from the being dead part....grrr!!! Its must have been something internal that was just too much for her during her first egg laying experience as she was completely fine this morning. Now I will never know if she was a true OE.
so sorry, aubrey.

Thanks Tyler - that site is awesome! I'll bet you just cost me $500!

Blame the mice.
Oh no Aubs I'm so sorry :'(
I love Julie's birds. How long until you know if you have cocks for me Julie? I kinda hoped I'd have some in time for fair. By the way I saw Kathy at work the other day. She told me I better get out to her house soon. She'd even come grab me.

I just joined, and live in Palomino Valley. While we do not have chickens anymore, I am interested in most issues of self reliance and independence.
