I never did at all last year. In fact i didnt even think about it at all

It's so nice to go look out at my little marble of black fluff, watch mommy show her how to eat, tell Oh'no to go inside because it's not her baby, and know everything is alright.

congrats on the baby, aubrey!
So I was wondering today... do mama hens deal with pasting themselves? Do I need to worry about my baby getting pasted if she's outside with a mom?
I have heard that usually only shipped chicks get the pasting and ones that have been hatched and not shipped are usually fine. most likely you won't have to worry about it.

i bet it's fun to see how the mama hen takes care of her chick!

Oh Aubrey, I thought you used an old pic of your frizzle. I don't blame her wanting to wear T-shirts instead.

I'm going to really love next year when chickens can hatch out chickens just by looking at both of your pictures.

It was so interesting watching the broodies. The one broody took all the chicks within about 24 hours. I moved all the chicks and both moms into the grow out pen but it was clear who the main mom was. As I enlarged their space the one mom guarded the perimeter, keeping the other chickens from getting too close and warning against danger. The other mom seemed totally relaxed, teaching the chicks the basics. I was surprised how long the "perimeter" mom stuck with them. Several weeks and then one day she returned to the flock. About 2 weeks after that the other mom returned to the coop. Two chicks followed her the first night and the 2nd night they all made it to the big coop and the next day that mom returned to the flock.

The new chicks have their own group and you'd never guess who their moms were. As good as the moms were, there is no connection.

When is that show going to be?
I'm still trying to decide on the cockerels. My friend said they both HHS e a lot of potential. I'm leaning towards the light brown though. Do you have girl friends for him?
