Millie and Banana Pants. Check out those bell bottoms!

How neat that your buff x wheaten pullet lays the turquoise colored egg! I love that color! It looks so pretty next to the dark speckled egg.

Here is the ameraucana egg on the left and the mondo egg on the far right.

Here's my harvest today. I had a few more tomatoes that I didn't get into the photo.

Chicharo has been playing with this pipe cleaner for the last few nights. He's so cute. he brings it over to me and meows for me to throw it for him.

My silkie roo (behind the speckled Sussex, Lucy, who's photobombing)

I made this roost outside in the run a few weeks ago. I can add some more roosts to it.

I will post a few photos of the other silkies. If you have any opinions on gender, please enlighten me! I'm guessing maybe 2 cockerels and 2 pullets in the other 4 but I'm not sure.

Oh wow, I missed some of your pics Elizabeth. I'm sorry. I love the roost you made and your flock is fantastic too. I guess it was hard to catch up with over 100 posts?

Cool pics!

My tomatoes, alas, are no more.

Got a major infestation of horn worms and then the fruit on them either cracked or mushed out at the bottom.

However, the local Hispanic markets are have a heyday with fruit and so I'm going to put up some jams and jellies....may even do some salsa. The black plums are really luscious (makes a great ginger jam) and I'm thinking some peach/hotpepper chutney. My neighbor has a prickly pear so loaded with tuna rojas that it looks like Christmas and he's offered to let me have 'em (which makes for a great batch of magenta colored syrup for drinks and jelly). But I am SO envious of y'all that have the fresh produce. I can hardly wait to move out of this god-forsaken desert to have the ability to grow something.

I love all the *dining* chicken names. So where's Stirfry?

Aubrey, your chicks are adorable!

Bedbugs suck! (literally and figuratively) There's a website -- www.bedbugregistry.com -- which lists places you probably don't want to stay. It used to be one or two offender in Las Vegas on the Strip, but now they're pretty pervasive and all over....and all over the U.S. Hint: When you travel and stay in a hotel do NOT put your suitcase on the floor or bed.

Loving the monsoon season down here, but not so much the humidity. We were that location in Henderson that got 1.3" in 20 minutes. I had just let the two dogs outside and I noticed two big plop drops on the patio and thought to myself "Man, if that were hail, it would be pretty big." And then all heck started to break loose. I called the dogs in. Tibbs got in right away. The difference between a dry dog and a thoroughly drenched dog (running inside with her eyes closed) was 6 seconds. It was just a wall of water that erupted. We had about 3" of standing water in the backyard at spots. Pretty intense. (but great not to have to water the yard for a couple of days!)

Hope everyone else is enjoying summer! It's almost SHARK WEEK!!!!!!

I knowwwww it! Last night was the first night in weeks that i slept without mittens and wool socks and didnt wake up in pain and it was AMAZING!!!! The pest control dudes were saying how theyre pretty much everywhere now and its only a matter of time before its a common thing. Its very sad, almost all reno hotels have them too. :/

OK quotes aren't working for me again and since I have 8 pages to go through I will just take them page by page

Pg 1440
Welcome SilKee!

So great to see more folks on here!!! Sounds like you have gotten some great advice on your question and probably more on the pages I haven't checked yet so I'll refrain from adding more, for now. :) I will try to add you to the opening post, if it will let me edit. I've been having some trouble trying to edit lately.

Pam I need to get some pics still but I have 2 solid black boys (1 is just the sweeeeetest, most curious thing ever, so he gets to stay for sure) and 1 girl is almost entirely white. In fact during her last 2 molts she lost most, if not all, of those speckled feathers so I may end up with an all white bird after all! I also have another boy left that is black with a few white feathers in his crest but he is rather honery so he will not be staying around. Then one girl is an off white with some light buff markings. I'm forgetting what else is out there so I need to take pics. It's the only way I can remember anything. We have gotten rid of a few boys already so we have quite a few less birds than we had. Too bad the boys get the raw end of the deal in the chicken world but feeding all those boys was just not practical. :/ I so hope you get a great hatch but 20 eggs is an awful lot for one hen.

Pg 1441... Ron I am so sorry about Poppy turning into such a turd! I feel terrible! You sure you don't want a nice marans roo instead? :( That really stinks that you are still not getting your notifications!!!

Yes Elizabeth you are turning into the crazy chicken lady! But since I've never had silkies I'll try not to judge. lol

Missy you are correct, no air cell is a bad sign. It means the egg is probably scrambled. I have heard of eggs with broken air cells hatching but it is much harder to get them to hatch. Good luck!!!

Missy and Seth I have to agree with you on the cochins. I have avoided them for ages cause they don't lay a very big egg but I gave in and bought one of GitLost's frizzled cochins and OMG she is just soooo freaking adorable!!! She is almost as precious as the polish I got from Pam and she is young yet so still has time to develop more personality. I want more of these frizzled cochins!!! <3

Elizabeth, how do you like the patty pan squash? We haven't grown them before. I just do zucchini for summer squash because it's such a guaranteed crop. I mean... if all else fails, and you didn't totally mess up your garden, then you'll still have zucchini. Winter squash is different; I go for short season and storage, with taste being a side bonus. But I haven't heard that patty pan fits into either of those categories, so I haven't dedicated any space to growing them. Any input?

SilKee I tried to add you to the O.P. but for some reason it won't let me edit the first page right now. I have a reminder in my phone to try again tomorrow but if I can't get online and forget, please don't hesitate to remind me! My short term memory is terrible!

pg 1442-1444

Aubrey I really feel for ya going through that bed bug horror! Hope all is well now. I have been reading about how they have been spreading across the U.S. for the last few years. My Mom got eaten alive on a trip they took a few years back and wanted me to research them. Scary stuff for such a little critter!
Guess I'll have to wait to see the new tat and the cute video. No pics are coming up for me at al!!! booooo.....
Kim swears that a cup will cure spraddle leg. I tried it once and it did seem to help but traction will cure a mild case. Just make sure they are not standing on a slippery surface when they hatch and while brooding. Good luck!

Missy sorry to hear about the problems with the hatches. That stinks!

Elizabeth congrats on the egg!

I still need to post pics soon. Don't know that it will let me til I get someplace with a stronger signal though so maybe the next time I go into town I can post them. :)

Hey I get pics on this page! YEA!!! Adorable roo Elizabeth and that egg is ginormous!!!!! Nice veggies too. :)

I keep watching the weather and it looks like it has been raining very close to us the past few days but it never quite gets here.

YES! Multi-quotes and pics worked on the last 3 pages! So much easier to remember what I want to say with the multi-quotes.

Check out the weird purple egg we got today. I think it's a fluke, but it's pretty neat.
Wow! I love the color!!! I'm with Ron, I hope it's not a fluke cause that is a super cool looking egg! Where's Kim? She will love it!
First thing I did this morning when I woke up was ran outside to go check on bedbug. I was prepared for the worst. It she is up walking around and generally being adorable

little wobbly I'll admit but looking good. I do love her and her funny looking five toed feeties. Now I need a name for that cute lil silkie mutt!

haha! Glad I got to see these pics!
Those chicks are soooo adorable! Th "bell bottoms" are awesome!

I love that purple egg - I hope it isn't a fluke. That would be so cool to get a steady supply of them!

Did you open your giant egg yet Elizabeth? I'm just wondering if it was a double or triple. Most of my really big eggs have been single yolk, which I find strange!

My bell pepper plants look awful. It's just been way too hot for them I think. Onions, potatoes, corn and squash all look awesome though.

Yellow zucchini:

Nice zucchs! Never seen yellow zucchini before.
Cool pics!
