Nevadans?

My peachicks are here!!! My peachicks are here!!! heeheehee I am giddy I'm so happy! They are adorable and are already getting their little crests in. They are drinking water like crazy and scarfed a whole banana in nothing flat. They have sampled their gamebird starter and didn't seem to dislike it but it sure didn't get the attention the banana did. So relieved that they got here so fast and are happy and healthy. I always stress when birds are being shipped.

HOW EXCITING!!!!

My baby didn't make it. And the other two aren't going to hatch. If anyone knows of a brand new baby that my broody can adopt, I will love to have it. She's worked so hard, and deserves a baby.

Aw that stinks :( I was a little suspicious when you said half the shell was off but the membrane was still attached. Its so tricky, this hatching thing :( what makes you think he others wont hatch?

When I candled the other two eggs, I saw no air space. The only reason I left them in the nest was to increase the odds that, if another egg broke, it would be one of them. The baby tried to hatch 2 days early, and I think that's why it didn't make it. The yolk sac wasn't even absorbed.

I hate culling babies! They're so sweet and little - talking about my Andalusian flock. But I can't afford to feed them all up to butchering size.

We did that with our Delawares and they're big enough now that I need to start the process of slimming down the flock to one rooster and 3 or 4 hens for production of next year's meaties.

Do you need more homes for babies? I could put a few more of the same age in my pen, and look for homes when they get a bit bigger, or give them back when you have more room. I'd hate to see andalusians culled just because you have too many. But that all depends on when you're in town. And, of course, if you're fine with this past respiratory issue that we had in April.

Genny got back to me and she doesn't have any just hatched and isn't expecting any in the next few days either. Still waiting for a call from our other possible option.

And I am dying to share pics! I found the camera but now I can't get the pics from my computer to load on BYC. I hope to try again tomorrow. I knew you would be excited about them and almost called you on the way home from the PO. I decided not to bother you cause I didn't know what hours you were working and I hate to bother people at work.

Sure, why not?

I agree, it is the worst! Necessary sometimes though. :(

But if it's not meant to be, there's not much I can do about it. Thanks for trying!
You are very welcome. It is a hard time to be hatching. I can't even gather eggs over a few days right now cause the days are too hot and the egg will start to develop during the heat of the day and then the nights cool off too much. So I don't try when it's this hot. Still for folks that have air conditioning, or a separate fridge that can be kept a little warmer for that purpose, hatching is still an option.

well, I now have another broody! One of the black australorps has decided it's her turn. the buff orp was out of the nesting box this a.m. so maybe she's done. I feel so bad for them when it's this hot, though. I would not want to be camping out in a nest box in this heat.

It's our 16th anniversary today so I took the day off and we're going to go out to lunch while the kids are in school. A nice benefit of Jose's work schedule... we have so rarely gotten out together over the years, it's a real treat.

anyone know when nnfpa is having another swap? I haven't seen julie on here in a little while. Still haven't had any inquiries about my rooster.
I do wonder if this heat will hurt hatching. The eggs under two of the broodies are due starting this weekend and it's over 100 and supposed to get as high as 107! Anyone have experience or know if there are problems from brooding in such heat?
I don't have any experience hatching but I hope your eggs are okay. It's hot here but not quite that hot. I'm not a fan. Hopefully we'll all get a break from the heat soon.
